Spright Blue – #POTE-EN003

If you control a Level/Rank 2 monster, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). You can only Special Summon “Spright Blue” once per turn this way. If this card is Special Summoned: You can add 1 “Spright” monster from your Deck to your hand, except “Spright Blue”. You can only use this effect of “Spright Blue” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Spright Week is up on Pojo CoTD that it was only a matter of time before we looked at this meta archetype, starting off with the best monster in the Main Deck: Spright Blue.

All Spright monsters have pretty low ATK, but your goal isn’t a weenie-rush style, it’s all about spamming the field with everything and anything with Leve/Rank/Link 2. Special Summon Blue if you have a Level or Rank 2 monster, this effect is for all Spright monsters, and being a once per turn, you’ll get a shot to Special Summon them all once in the same turn this way. Five Main Deck monsters means five Special Summons, that adds up to a lot of advantage. When you do Special Summon Blue (in any fashion), you get your Spright RoTA from the deck except itself. Spright Blue is a one-card Rank/Link 2 on its own and it’s your way to get to your best Xyz Monster: Gigantic Spright. The Sprights are mostly different Attributes but the same Type: Thunder, so you could tech some support you’d normally see in Thunder Dragons into the deck, but honestly the Spright archetype functions so well on its own I can’t see you wanting to do that. In addition, there are several different engines for Level 2 monsters that can run alongside the Sprights and not hurt their consistency, but it all starts with this monster.

If you play Sprights they aren’t all a 3-of in the deck, but this one sure is.

Sprights are invading Pojo this week, ironically the same week as the archetype took an indirect hit with Ronintoadin banned, no I didn’t plan this. Anyways, we start with probably the most important of the Main Deck Sprights: Spright Blue.

Spright Blue is a Level 2 DARK Thunder with 1100 ATK and 1000 DEF. Stats are fine considering we’re working with a Level 2, DARK is always great, and Thunder had a nice run a few years ago. Anyways, first effect lets you Special Summon this from the hand by controlling a Level/Rank 2 monster, which is basically your whole Deck when playing Sprights. You only get to summon this card once a turn via this effect, otherwise the field will fill up with Sprights fast. Second effect triggers on Special Summon via any means, so thankfully its first effect works here, letting you search a Spright monster. Pretty good search considering all the other Sprights will likely be able to Special Summon themselves with their effects as well. You get Jet for a Spell/Trap search, Red to negate monster effects, Carrot to negate Spell and Trap effects, and Pixies to serve as an Honest-like card in an archetype with pretty low stats. You of course can’t search Spright Blue, but the HOPTs make searching him nearly useless unless you plan to use it next turn. Hard once per turn on the search as well, cause there are millions of ways to Special Summon it. Either way, Spright Blue is a key card to the Spright archetype as it gets you the whole monster lineup with many different effects, so it’s an easy 3-of for Sprights assuming Konami keeps it at 3.

Sprights are on call for review this week, starting with Sprite Blue.  Dark/Thunder (fun), Level 2, with actually nice enough stats for that at 1100/1000.  Controlling a Level or Rank 2 Monster nets a Special Summon of this for the player from their Hand.  If Special Summoned in this way, you net any other Theme Monster from your Deck to your Hand.  Both Effects here are once per Turn.  Nice combo piece here definitely.  The Level 2 condition fits well with the Theme, as easy enough Special Summon, and a free Deck search off that make for a good card to start the week.

This week finally touches on one of the long-anticipated powerhouse archetypes in Power of the Elements, the Sprights, another addition to the Albaz lore. Spright Blue is their first card, a level 2 DARK Thunder monster. 2 is the magic number, as the archetype specializes in Rank 2 and Link 2 monsters; that’ll become more apparent as the week goes on. Predictably, Spright Blue’s stats are rather middling, with only 1100 attack and 1000 defense, but you can’t really expect a level 2 to do much battling.

All Sprights share the same hard once per turn summoning condition, Special Summoning themselves as long as you control any level 2 monster. As the archetype is currently all level 2 monsters, there should be no problems with Special Summoning Spright Blue. Spright Blue’s other effect is as simple as it gets; on a hard once per turn, if it’s Special Summoned, you can search any Spright monster except itself. You’ll usually grab Spright Jet, but if you already have it in hand or used its effect, you’ll definitely grab Spright Red or Spright Carrot depending on the kind of deck you’re facing. There’s not really much to say; with so many consistent ways to spit out bodies, it’s no surprise that it saw nearly Tier 0 representation in OCG. While it is (possibly was) a top tier contender here in the TCG as well, it hasn’t been as dominant, and the very recent banlist has put a brake on its main combos. Still, the Spright core itself is still very compact and efficient, so I don’t ever see the archetype being “bad” without heavy core hits.
