They’ve really stepped up their wordplay in recent sets, haven’t they? And this particular card gives you exactly what it promises, and is very versatile to boot. You used to have to use two separate cards to get both of these effects in your deck at once, and freeing up space for other things in your decks tends to make them stronger overall. (Although, it also leads to the question of just what is going to go in those slots you’ve opened up!) Despite See Double’s restrictions, the effects are potentially powerful, and the bonus mode enables late-game comebacks and other assorted blowouts – not to mention making it a hidden tribal card for Zendikar Rising‘s Rogues.

See Double is pretty unusual in being a spell that can’t be copied explicitly; I don’t think there’s been a spell to disallow copying it before. That said, See Double is a pretty interesting spell besides that bit of text, letting you copy a spell or a creature (or both). Of note is that, unlike old spells like Fork and Twincast, this can copy permanent spells, and you can use this to try and misappropriate things that would be useful, and the trigger of eight or more cards in graveyard to get both parts of this spell is an interesting angle. I think this costing four mana is a bit of a thorny proposition, since this telegraphs itself very well if you’re planning to use it as an answer…but this can also be just used as an instant-speed Clone, and I suppose that’s not so bad in a pinch.

Constructed: 3.75
Casual: 4.5
Limited: 3.75 (depends on what you’re facing, but potentially very strong, and flexible enough to mitigate some weaknesses of copying effects in Limited)
Multiplayer: 3.5
Commander [EDH]: 3.75
