Revealer of the Ice Barrier – #SDFC-EN002

While you control another “Ice Barrier” monster, your opponent cannot Tribute Summon. You can only use each of the following effects of “Revealer of the Ice Barrier” once per turn. You can discard 1 card; Special Summon 1 “Ice Barrier” Tuner from your Deck, also you cannot Special Summon monsters for the rest of this turn, except WATER monsters. If you would discard, or send a card(s) from your hand to the GY, to activate an “Ice Barrier” monster’s effect, you can banish this card from your GY instead of 1 of those cards.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Revealer of the Ice Barrier begins an Ice Barrier Week, and might be a nod to Texas considering what’s happened over there the past few weeks.

Lock-down against Tribute Summons as long as you have another Ice Barrier monster, Revealer can be a nightmare for decks like Monarch that Tribute Summon. Immediately I’d like to have seen the Continuous Effect be “opponent cannot tribute monsters/cards” but that’s pretty broad for a Level 4 monster. 1-for-1 Special Summon from the deck will get you to your Tuner monsters and an immediate Synchro Summon as well as a deck thin, that’s pretty good for a 1-for-1, even if you are locked into WATER monsters for the rest of the turn. Five Tuner options ranging from 1-3 gives you options, and with five Synchro Ice Barrier monsters to choose from, as well as WATER Synchro options means you won’t lack options. Revealer’s effect can become a none-for-1 as well if you have another Revealer in your graveyard to banish. I like this ability almost as much as the Tuner Special Summon. Ice Barrier discard a lot and minimizing card cost is something they needed to do.

First turn Synchro ability in one card adds speed for Ice Barrier and then in the grave Revealer takes away a discard cost. Playset in the deck for sure.

Ice Barrier support this week, something I’m sure many didn’t expect in 2021 before the Structure Deck poll back last year. We start off the week with a card meant to help Ice Barriers enable Synchro Summoning more easily: Revealer of the Ice Barrier.

Revealer is a Level 4 WATER Spellcaster with 1700 ATK and 1000 DEF. Fine stats for a Level 4, Spellcaster is a great Type and WATER is a pretty good Attribute. While you control another Ice Barrier monster, your opponent cannot Tribute Summon. A pretty random stun effect on this card, just like most the Ice Barrier stun effects. I guess it lets you play against Monarchs or True Draco with your Ice Barrier Deck. Lore wise, probably meant to counter Steelswarm. The rest of the effects this card has are a hard once per turn, as you’d probably expect on a modern card. The first effect lets you discard a card to summon a Ice Barrier Tuner from the Deck, but you can only summon WATER monsters for the rest of the turn. A free Tuner is pretty good for a Synchro archetype, especially from the Deck. Immediately helps Ice Barriers summon their Synchros, something they didn’t have an easy time doing before the support. You’re locked to WATER, but there’s several good WATER monsters. Crystron Halqifibrax comes to mind being WATER, and this enables him, but your Halq combos are too limited to be worth going for it. If you would discard or send a card from hand to grave for an Ice Barrier effect, you can banish this card instead of 1 of those discard. It’s a pretty good way to trigger the effects of Brionac and Gungnir without actually discarding cards. Strategist also becomes a free draw. You can also use this for another Revealer’s effect later on. Revealer helps solve some of the problems that Ice Barrier had, gets to their Tuners for Synchro plays and helps cover the discard cost that some Ice Barriers have. It’s an overall decent card for the archetype.

Look at today’s card and guess what we’re doing Thursday and Friday.  It’s not too late to place your bets.  New Ice Barrier support gets going with Revealer of the Ice Barrier.  Water is the Theme of course, Spellcaster has insane support and 1700 attack on a Level 4 is solid.  Controlling another Monster in the Theme prevents your opponent from Tribute Summoning.  Good, not great, but good.  This can be critical against some Decks while being a minor inconvenience for others, but I still like it.  Being able to discard a card for an instant drop to the Field of a Theme Tuner should be an instant Trishula for you.  (Or something else, max your bets please).  Only Water Special Summons attached to that for the Turn is irrelevant.  Another gem of an effect here let’s you remove this card from play as opposed to discarding when you activate a Theme effect.  Both those effects are once per turn.  Preventing Synchro flooding and from keeping too many resources is a necessary precaution.  The only way this card would’ve been better is if it were a Tuner too.
