Rank-Up-Magic Zexal Force – #LIOV-EN050

Target 1 Xyz Monster you control; Special Summon from your Extra Deck, 1 “Utopia” or “ZW -” monster that is 1 Rank higher than that monster you control, by using it as material, and if you do, take 1 “ZW -” or “ZS -” monster from your Deck and place it on top of your Deck. (This is treated as an Xyz Summon. Transfer its materials to the Summoned monster.) If your opponent’s LP are at least 2000 higher than yours: You can banish this card from your GY; draw 1 card. You can only use this effect of “Rank-Up-Magic Zexal Force” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Rank-Up-Magic Zexal Force is the newest member of the “Rank-Up” family of cards.

An easier way to summon a Utopia or ZW Xyz monster that is a rank higher than the targeted monster, Zexal Force is also a ZW or ZS searcher. While it doesn’t bring it to your hand and rather on top of your deck, it does allow you to position a resource for your next move. A nifty draw 1 off Zexal Force being banished if your opponent has 2000LP or more than you, working with the theme of several of the ZW weapon cards. 15 monsters in total are able to be Special Summoned by Zexal Force, but this card is really only used to get you to your Rank 5 Utopia Xyz monsters. Which one you choose is up to the situation you are in: Ultimate Dragonic Utopia Ray has great board removal power in conjunction with ZW cards, Number C39: Utopia Ray V can do spot monster removal and burn if it has Utopia attached, Leo Utopia Ray can halve an opponents monster while negating their effect(s) also in conjunction with ZW monsters, and finally Number C39: Utopia Ray Victory can be a battering ram with negation power and ATK gain as long as it has Utopia attached.

Pick your poison, just make sure you have the required monsters to benefit from the Xyz monster’s effects.

Next up we got the newest addition to the Rank-Up-Magic lineup with Zexal Force.

Zexal Force is a Normal Spell that targets an Xyz you control and uses it and the Xyz Materials it has to Xyz Summon a Utopia or ZW Xyz that has one Rank higher than the targeted monster, then you can take a ZW or ZS monster in the Deck and place it on top of your Deck. Good to work alongside Xyz Change Tactics to immediately draw that card since you just likely summoned a Utopia. Most of the Utopias do need a Utopia as material, but it’s nice to turn a generic Rank 4 into a Utopia that doesn’t need that specific material, or any of the two ZW Xyzs. This card also has an effect where if the opponent has at least 2000 LP more than you, only this is a graveyard effect to trigger to draw a card. Getting your LP down by 2000 should be easy with the aforementioned Xyz Change Tactics, and it helps draw the card you placed on top of your Deck. You won’t always be behind in LP, but it’s nice to have a free graveyard effect after getting a new Rank-Up option, which is likely the go-to Rank-Up for a Utopia Deck now.

Advanced Rating: 3.5/5

Art: 1.5/5 Meh, it’s just the X in the Zexal logo.

WHAT COULD A CARD WITH RANK UP IN ITS NAME POSSIBLY DO?  Well, Rank-Up-Magic Zexal Force, appropriately, if not lazily named, is a Normal Magic.  So, you Rank Up, this time using an XYZ you control and Special Summon a Utopia or an ZW XYZ that’s ONE Rank above the one you used for this.  Said Monster also becomes Material for the new one you bring out.  Now, if you succeed in this, and let’s recall this is a Target Effect to begin with, so as is often the case with Rank-Up, this can be complicated.  You’re then able, if you choose, to add a ZW or ZS Monster from your Deck to the top of it.  Setting yourself up for a play, that soon, and through a Special Summon, is a good thing.  That’s a lot of work to do just to set up your next Draw (not even GET the card in question) meaning you either have to hope/make yourself Draw again that Turn, or HOPE you get to Draw next Turn without your opponent hitting that card before.  I really don’t like the 2000 Lifepoint difference Effect here this time.  You can remove this from your Graveyard from play to Draw a card.  That’s a STEEP price for a card and not enough reward for being that far behind.  One card can change a game, sure, but there’s just lots of text here and not enough reward.

Art:  1/5  I’m not sure how often I give 1/5 on Art, but this is lazy.  I mean they could have done something with the colors in the back or maybe made the logo bolder or shiny or something.
