Purrely – #AMDE-EN013

If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can excavate the top 3 cards of your Deck, and if you do, you can add 1 excavated “Purrely” Spell/Trap to your hand, also place the rest on the bottom of your Deck in any order. Once per turn, during your Main Phase: You can reveal 1 “Purrely” Quick-Play Spell in your hand, Special Summon 1 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck that mentions that card, by using this card you control as material, and attach the revealed card to the Summoned monster. (This is treated as an Xyz Summon.)

Hello Pojo Fans,

The Purrely archetype is what we’re looking at this week on Pojo, and we start with the base monster and the one the archetype is named for: Purrely.

An adorable ball of fluff that is a LIGHT, Level 1 Fairy monster, so a lot of support there. If you Normal/Special Summon Purrely you can excavate the top 3 cards of your Deck and add a “Purrely” Spell/Trap. While this isn’t a traditional searcher card for an archetype, it does search you something while moving cards to the bottom of your deck in any order. It’s kind of strange that the base monster for the archetype would excavate rather than mill considering what all the Xyz monsters for the archetype do, but we’ll get into that in the coming days.

Free Xyz Special Summon off revealing a “Purrely” Quick-Play Spell you have in your hand can be fueled by the previous effect if you add a Quick-Play. With three different Quick-Play Spells in the archetype you shouldn’t have too tough a time getting a “Purrely” Xyz out through Purrely. You use Purrely and the card you revealed as materials, which I guess could be considered a -1 since you didn’t get to use the Quick-Play, but with each Quick-Play within the archetype granting an effect when used as an Xyz Material that -1 will even out.

A good base to start with for the archetype. Purrely gets you to a Purrely Spell/Trap (even if it isn’t guaranteed) and can be an instant Xyz Summon as long as you have a Purrely Quick-Play to add as material.

Purrely Week is here on Pojo and we start the week the only way possible, with the archetype’s main monster: Purrely.

Purrely is a Level 1 LIGHT Fairy with 100 ATK and DEF. Stats are terrible, but a LIGHT Fairy is always good. First effect triggers on Normal or Special Summon, letting you excavate the top 3 cards of your Deck to add a Purrely Spell/Trap you excavate of your choice to your hand while the rest go to the bottom of the Deck. It’s not an outright search, probably to prevent the second effect from being live immediately, but it can at least help you dig through your Deck for the Spell and Trap support, plus no once per turn clause on this effect does mean you also get to use this effect again with other copies of Purrely. The second effect is a once per turn, however, but it’s a soft once per turn, meaning other copies of Purrely can use the effect as well. Said effect is to reveal a Purrely Quick-Play Spell from your hand to Special Summon an Xyz Monster that mentions said Quick-Play Spell in its effect text and then attach this card and the Quick-Play Spell to the summoned monster, all of this being treated as an Xyz Summon. It’s a different take on Xyz Summoning 100%, and it isn’t really hard to do considering the archetype has 3 Quick-Play Spells to help summon 3 different Xyz Monsters, with more on the way I’m sure. You won’t have a hard time really summoning an Xyz with this I’m sure, it’s just more of summoning the one you want that might get a little harder. Nonetheless, Purrely is the bread and butter to this archetype and even though we got a 2nd Main Deck name coming soon, the original I imagine will remain a staple 3-of in the Deck.

Art: 4.5/5 It’s cute, and I’ve seen the comparisons to Eevee from Pokemon, but I just prefer Eevee itself.

This week starts our coverage of the Purrely archetype. Their first card? The aptly named Purrely, a level 1 LIGHT Fairy monster, so you can grab it with One for One and it has some synergy with LIGHT Fairy support (though it’s generally a bad idea, as Purrely is better off pure). More importantly, Purrely has a whole heaping pile of Quick Play Spells that will Special Summon it from the deck, so accessing it isn’t a huge issue. Fittingly, it has a poor stat spread of 100 attack and defense, so it does not exactly scream strength.

Interestingly, neither of Purrely’s effects are hard once per turn. If Purrely is Normal or Special Summoned, you can excavate the top three cards of your deck, add a Purrely backrow from among them, and place the rest on the bottom of your deck (a thinly-veiled reference to the Digimon TCG, clever). As we won’t get the other Purrely main deck monster for a good bit, this effect is fine, as hopefully your deck will be primarily Purrely Spells. Relying on RNG for a ROTA though is always suspect, especially when not all Purrely Spells are created equal. Purrely’s other effect is a soft once per turn, letting you reveal a Purrely Quick Play Spell from your hand to Xyz Summon a Purrely monster from your Extra Deck that mentions said Quick Play Spell using Purrely, attaching the Quick Play Spell as an Xyz material as well. This is your primary method of Xyz Summoning, since the archetype literally cannot Xyz Summon the old-fashioned way! Purrely’s best cards haven’t arrived to the TCG yet, but in the interim, any of the Rank 2 Purrelys can work, since you’ll rank up into their sub-boss anyway. Overall, while Purrely is decent, it’ll be replaced by a much better pet down the road, though you’ll still run 3.
