Remembering that all of this weeks’ cards come from a Will Turner deck that I made for my wife to play (and beat me wife I might add), this particular Strike is actually really valuable. For only 3 energy (which is one third of your starting total) you get a 5/5 strike with a nifty ability. If you happen to flip this card in either your yellow or red zones you can pay a couple more green energy and move it up one zone. As the game progresses you’ll find that energy control is about the most important aspect of the game, often it’s not that you won’t have a decent strike to defend with, you won’t have the enough energy to pay for it.

Now, considering that I haven’t managed to pull more than two copies of any rares (and I already traded away one of them), I’m not sure how this particular card would work in a 4x playset. I’ve never really played that way anyway, preferring to keep my decks more interesting with more cards. Once we get a full spoiler for the entire set I’m going to put together a nice listing of all the strikes, their energy costs and their statisitics, so that we can find out exactly which strikes have the most economical payment costs. I doubt that this one has a decent cost to statistics ratio.

Sword Strikes appear to be fairly rare in of themselves (actually all the PotC exclusive Strikes – Sword, Cannon and Sail – seem to be pretty rare as opposed to the standard Lion, Bear and Fox strikes. I would value this particular rare at between $3 and $5.

My ratings:
Playability 3 of 5
Collectability 4 of 5
