Reeve Magmortar.
# 467.
Type: Fire.
Ability: Flame body.
Locations: Evolve Magmar.

Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re reviewing Magmortar, the blast Pokémon.

Once I finished the main part of the game, I started training one of these guys, I haven’t seen its full potential because of destiny, but I’m very pleased with the results so far. Magmortar has good special attack, unfortunately being slow and weak to water and ground attacks is dangerous, so you have to use full power to take at least a couple Pokémon with you.

Flame body is a nice ability; if you manage to burn your foe with this effect you already have a huge strategic and psychological advantage.

Let’s move on to the move combinations, let’s see what’s up with this guy…

Magmortar.
Nature: Modest (+ Special attack, - Attack).
Equip: Heat rock.
EV´s: 252 Special attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP.
- Flamethrower
- Solar beam
- Thunderbolt
- Sunny day

With 252 speed EV’s Magmortar will still be slow; however you have a chance to be faster than some commons. Sunny day and Heat rock are now a pretty usual strategy. If you feel lucky get Fire blast instead of flamethrower.

Magmortar.
Nature: Modest (+ Special attack, - Attack).
Equip: Power herb.
EV´s: 252 Special attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP.
- Flamethrower
- Solar beam
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic / Focus blast

This is my favorite; I don’t really like weather conditions. Power Herb is a pretty nice surprise, but you can use Salac berry if you don’t agree. Psychic is a pretty decent and strong attack. Focus blast is the same as Fire blast; use it only if you feel lucky because of the accuracy.

When should I use this Pokémon?
Fire types were popular once, and they still are, however they are very few and most of them aren’t really used on competitive battles. I’d suggest using this if you are an experienced trainer who knows about fast Pokémon and correct switching… Batton pass some speed to this and it’s great.

What should I use against this Pokémon?
Nowadays Garchomps are very popular. Dugtrio, Dragon dance Tyranitar and Aerodactyl are guaranteed to take Magmortar down…

Bottom line:
Still like it, it will not be as popular as punching Electivire, but I think this one has some talent.

Remember, if you have DP versions and want to trade or battle with me. I already have a list of haves and wants here in the Pojo Forums; the URL is http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=442831 for trading (have some good shinies and legendaries). If you want to battle then send me a PM or send an e-mail to reeve.ryu@gmail.com.

Rating:
3/5

Hope you enjoyed.

Carbunkle So, now we get the evolutions for the old pokemon.
This time its Magmars evolution which you need a Magmarizer on it and trade
it.

Name: Magmortar
Ability: Flame Body
Type: Fire
Nature: Quiet (+S.Atk, -Speed)
Item: Charcoal
EV's: 252 S.Atk, 252 Atk (Hp)

Ability is good if you make or get near contact with the other pokemon
because of the 30% chance to burn it. Else it's good for hatching eggs.
Nature to get the S.Atk. up which will be good.
Item is to strengthen it's fire attacks.
Weakness against Ground, Water and rock which we will take care of.

Attacks:
1) Thunderbolt
2) Fire Blitz
3) Protect
4) Earthquake

Well, Strategy time.
Protect if you can and will be lucky if you can make it work against an
super effective attack.
Thunderbolt is against water types. Earthquake against rock, still nothing
against ground pokemons but that doesnt do anything, specially with Fire
Blitz, sure recoil but BIG damage.

Very fun.

4/5 (only rises because he looks so cool)

Still waiting for D/P to be released. Anyone that also want Fione now can
just contact me as soon as I can get the Ditto over to it when I get D/P.

Over and Out

Nathan Another week, another Pokemon to review. This week we have Magmortar, the Burning Genie.

Magmortar
Fire
Ability: Flame Body (When a Pokemon makes contact with Magmortar, it has a 30% chance of being Burned.) Base Stats:
HP: 75
Atk: 95
Def: 67
SpAtk: 125
SpDef: 95
Spd: 83

So here we have Magmortar. Low HP/Def, suprisingly high Atk, stupendus SpAtk, high SpAtk, and barly above-average Spd. This thing is built to... well, its stats are made to use Special attacks, anyway. Lets look at some movesets, shall we?

Magmortar@Choice Scarf
Modest Nature (Atk-, SpAtk+)
(See below)
-Fire Blast/Flamethrower/Overheat
-Thunderbolt
-Focus Blast/HP Fighting/Psychic
-HP Ice/Psychic

I like Fire Blast/Thunderbolt/Psychic/HP Ice, myself. Now for the spread. You want to get at least 242, to outspeed Starmie. If you want to go a little faster, you can go up to 249, and outspeed Alakazam and Duggy. Max out SpAtk, and put the rest in HP. Use this set like any other Choice set, and you should do fine.

Magmortar@Salac Berry
Modest Nature (Atk-, SpAtk+)
SpAtk: 252, Spd: 252, HP: 6
-Endure
-Fire Blast/Flamethrower
-Thunderbolt
-HP Ice/HP Grass/Psychic

Endure when you expect a hit that will OHKO you, and then have at it.
HP Ice, then Grass, then Psychic, in order of decending goodness.

Magmortar@Heat Rock
Modest Nature (Atk-, SpAtk+)
SpAtk: 252, HP: 129, SpDef: 129
-Sunny Day
-Fire Blast/Flamethrower
-Solarbeam
-Thunderbolt/HP Ice

Your basic Sunnybeamer. The spread is kinda meh, so feel free to use another one, if you find one.

So there's Magmortar. Worse than Electivire, in my opinion, but it still can see play. Just watch out for any sort of Physical attacks, and you should be fine.

Overall: 3.5/5
Looks: 3/5 (Meh, not so pretty. It shouldn't have legs, IMO, and if it had a buster arm like Megaman, then it would be 10/5)
