Hitmonchan

Date Reviewed: 12.29.06

Ratings & Reviews Summary: 1.5

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale.
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.  5 is the highest rating.

Brown Bomber
Okay, we begin with the crappiest Hitmon, Hitmonchan. I deleted NetBattle, so I can't give you any specific EVs.

Hitmonchan @ Choice Band
-Sky Uppercut
-Earthquake/Hidden Power Ghost
-Rock Slide
-Focus Punch

A crappier version of the other Hitmons. Use Hitmonlee or Hitmontop instead.

Hitmonchan @ Leftovers
-Bulk Up
-Sky Uppercut
-Rock Slide
-Focus Punch/Hidden Power Ghost

I dunno; I guess the Bulk Up set can work decently in Neverused. In standard, you could hit Skarmory with a Bulk Up Focus Punch as it Roars Hitmonchan away, but Skarmory may Drill Peck it away instead due to its horrible HP and mediocre Defense. Eh.

EVs: For all sets, give it maxed Attack and Speed with an Adamant Nature since it needs to hit hard and run away. You could run 240 Speed if you're worried about Magneton and Breloom (however, you shouldn't use Hitmonchan in OU). If you're using Agility for some strange reason, run 198 Speed with maxed Attack and the remaining EVs in HP.

Other Options: Don't use the punches with Hitmonchan's base 35 Special Attack. =/
Maybe Brick Break over Sky Uppercut for accuracy. Mach Punch in NU or UU for Flail/Reversal Pokemon.
Agility if you wanted to sweep (lol).
Rapid Spin is an option if you're afraid of Spikes, but Hitmonchan is way too frail for a Spinner and Skarmory will Drill Peck it while it wastes its time spinning.
Sleep Talk can go on the Choice Band set to absorb sleep, but again, Hitmonchan is too frail.

Counters: Skarmory, Weezing, Dusclops, Celebi, Jirachi, Zapdos, Moltres, Salamence, Gyarados, Gengar if no HP Ghost, lots of OU Pokemon. In NU, I suppose Pokemon like Swalot and Pidgeot stop it.

Final Verdict: Hitmonchan is an absolutely horrible Pokemon that is unfit for any metagame except the Neverused Metagame. Use Hitmonlee or Hitmontop in UU instead. Seriously, I'm competitive, and I'm not going to sugar-coat crappy Pokemon. Sorry.

OU: 1/5. It gets eaten alive, and you have better fighters like Heracross and BRELOOM (what happened to my favorite Pokemon? =( )
UU: 1/5. You have Hitmonlee and Hitmontop to use here.
NU: 3/5. It's actually decent here. Then again, Plusle is good in NU. =/

Peace Out,
Bronw Bomber

Reeve Hitmonchan
# 107.
Type: Fighting.
Ability: Keen eye.
Locations: Fighting dojo in Saffron City (FireRed, LeafGreen), Snag from Cipher Peon Karbon (XD).

Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re reviewing Hitmonchan, the boxing Pokémon.

Hitmonchan is even worse than Hitmonlee. It learns the elemental punches but has a horrible special attack which makes them totally useless… It is also kind of slow but has more special defense…

The ability isn’t that great either. It prevents accuracy loss, but I don’t think that’s a wide advantage for you.

So you might think a move combination like this; the three elemental punches and another thing. But we don’t want that. It is useless.

Hitmonchan.
Nature: Jolly (+ Speed, - Special attack).
Equip: Salac berry.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP.
- Mach punch
- Bulk up
- HP rock
- Brick break

Bulk up, then use HP rock or Brick break. With salac berry you’re earning some speed so try to stay alive.

When should I use this Pokémon?
Don’t use it, believe me. If you really want to use first use a baton passer so you really take some advantage out of Hitmonchan. Ninjask works fine.

What should I use against this Pokémon?
Ghost Pokémon. Any of them will work fine. Flying types also work great. Skarmory and Gengar will take this out easily.

Bottom line:
Not even close to a good Pokémon. Don’t bother… If you really want to use it, use it playing the main story of the game as it is a very casual Pokémon.

Rating:
1.5/5

Hope you enjoyed.
Reeve.

Domo!!! Razor Ramon desu!!! Okaaaaaay!!! (*pelvic thrusts*)

Hello everybody and welcome to another GBA Pokemon of the week. Just 2 more days and everybody can open their Wii’s and PS3’s. I write this on a Thursday morning preparing to camp out at Best Buy’s for probably their last shipment of Wii’s before X-mas so wish me luck. This week we have the Jackie-Chan-based Pokemon, Hitmonchan the punching fiend.

This is one of those Pokemon that looks cool but is more so used for more Pokedex fodder. In my opinion, Hitmonchan shouldn’t be used because the common Psychic-types that lurk about can usually take him down in 1 hit or 2 but that goes for a lot of fighting Pokemon. However, Hitmonchan has an above normal special defense base of 110 so ya never know. Still I’d avoid using single-type Pokemon unless its extremely awesome. But let’s try this moveset

Nature: Adamant(+atk, -spec. atk.)
Item: Salac Berry
Moveset:
Endure
Reversal
Swagger
Rock Slide

Start things off with a nice little Swagger and Rock Slide away unless you are half-life or less then endure. Allow Salac to activate then Reversal/Rock Slide till you see fit. This one might be lucky enough to take 1 maybe 2 down if worked right but Sandstorm/Hail and quick atk/extreme speed/mach punch/anything that goes fast owns him.

Overall:
2/5
I’d rank it better than last week’s Licky but its not gonna cut it in competitive play.

Hope everybody has a Merry Christmas! So from Osaka, farewell HOOOOOOOO!!
(*pelvic thrusts*)
