Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re
reviewing the Pokémon nightmare. Wobbuffet: the banned Pokémon.
Today, most tournaments have the “Wobbuffet clause”. What’s
that? Well. This rule says no Wobbuffet is allowed because if
two Wobbuffets fight. The battle is going to last forever. I’ve
seen that and it is boring and frustrating. So that’s why you
won’t see this fellow.
Wobbuffet is powerful and useful. It is also frustrating for
your opponent (and you’ll know why when you see the move
combination if you don’t already know it). I don’t how this
Pokémon was created, but it was a good idea.
It has a tremendous amount of HP and its ability is great.
Preventing your opponent from switching also gives you some time
to pull out the strategy…
And what strategy?! Well, read and cry…
Wobbuffet.
Nature: Bold (+ Defense, - Attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 HP, 129 Defense, 129 Special Defense.
- Counter
- Mirror coat
- Encore
- Charm
Now you know why it’s banned. Well, you don’t have any offensive
attack. You just use Encore and counter or mirror coat depending
on the situation. Charm just for extraordinary cases…
When should I use this Pokémon?
I have never used it before and probably you will never do it in
tournaments. But if you have a casual battle and your opponent
agrees. Use it, it is invincible if you know how to make it
effective.
What should I use against this Pokémon?
Another Wobbuffet? Don’t even think about it… If you got to beat
Wobbuffet you’ll probably sacrifice two or maybe three Pokémon.
First use something to take out those Leftovers, then a
“surprise Pokémon”, something that seems like a special sweeper,
but attacking with earthquake or something. Maybe Salamence
(because it is a good special and normal sweeper). Try to be
fast and use the surprise factor.
Bottom line:
If you’re going to train and use one. Catch a Wynaut and evolve
it. It is better because of the “charm” thing… Also if you use
it, prepare for a long, long battle…
