Stephen Silvestro on Pokemon
Exclusive interview with Jimmy B and a look at HOT new deck , Destiny!

March 26, 2007

Stephen Silvestro:  I would first like to take this time to thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do this interview. I'm sure all of the reader will appreciate this.

Jimmy B:  No problem ... Anything I can do to further the knowledge of any readers.

Stephen Silvestro:  In the past you have been very successful, would you mind telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Jimmy B:  I am a 33 year old man, that got involved with this game around the Team Rocket expansion. I didn't start playing the game until after Neo 2 was released. I have 2 sons and a daughter that have been actively involved in the game as well. I learned many things from them. I will not play an ARCHETYPE, and have developed many different ROGUE decks.

Stephen Silvestro:  Jimmy , Anyone who knows you knows that you have made a name for yourself in the past be being one of , if not THE BEST rogue player in the game. Every year you seem to make a deck that can handle the whole format. Can you give us an example of decks you've made in the past that have given you this reputation? Jimmy B:  Well it all started with Thundercatz... It was designed to take on the top 3 decks that were currently in the format. It was basically Magneton, Delcatty, Espeon and Gorebyss. I ended up taking 31st place at worlds that year, getting donked by BLAZIKEN. oops! Then I Won a Gym Challenge in Texas with 4 Mewtwo ex, 3 Aquas manectric and 3 Aquas Lanturn. Only a 4 basic deck... Recently, I took second place at worlds with a deck I called EEVEE, but has been come to be named eeveelutions. I just took all the tops decks in the current format and found a common weakness. The I built a deck to capitalize on those weaknesses. Currently I am playing with a deck called DESTINY. Again, it is a fast and extremely disruptive deck that takes advantage of a particular decks weaknesses.

Stephen Silvestro:  This "Destiny" deck you spoke of , the hype around it has been very big as of late. This particular deck seems to have engulfed the "PokeGym" community as of late. Any comments on that subject?

Jimmy B:  Sure.... Its only natural that people are intrigued by something new. There are not enough good players out there trying to redirect the metagame at any given time. Our communities Elite players are comfortable plying things that have been established. And with good reason. I fortunately can excel in that type of environment. Destiny is only as good as the player playing it. It is not a deck that is meant for new or inexperienced players. It has some EXTREMELY advanced gameplay strategies. To run this deck effectively you need to have a complete understanding of the current metagame. Not necessarily Destiny. You would need to know how your opponents deck works better than he/she does, so you may capitalize on their decks vulnerability.

Stephen Silvestro:
So Jimmy , I am sure you don't want to give away to much of your deck. Mind giving the readers a little glimpse as to what the deck that came out of no where and won states included?

Jimmy B:  I got a basic deck list from Adam Maldanado which only consisted of 4 copies of 3 different pokemon. Rayquaza ex (d), Stantler, and Lickitung(d). While this list was good, It didnt really corner the metagame. I cant play with a one dimensional deck. I need something with lots of options. I began to work with the deck with an understanding of the current metagame. I put in techs, took out techs, switched up trainers and energy, and came out with a real consistent and NASTY deck. The biggest addition to the deck was MEW ex. It just gave the deck the balance it needed to be extremely competitive. Jimmy B: The NEW AND IMPROVED destiny will definitely make a showing. fate has already been determined.... Its MY DESTINY!!! The NEW AND IMPROVED destiny will definitely make a showing. fate has already been determined.... Its MY DESTINY!!!

Let's take a look at destiny shall we? As given by Jimmy , the deck is run by 4 basic pokemon.

There is a pretty obvious strategy. Use stantler or lickitung to get fast control of the game. If you start with Mew EX use Versatile to get control. Like Jimmy said in above interview the best way to play this deck is to know your opponent's deck better than them.

I hope everyone has enjoyed this interview and this look at at "Destiny".

Untill next Friday , This is Steve Silvestro reminding you - Pojo is your #1 source of Pokemon News!
