Getting into Pokemon!
July 30, 2007

Ok I heres an email I recently got from a fan known as Andrew Heng who is trying to get back into the game.

I'm new in the current set-up (last time I played we were only a couple sets after jungle)
and I want to get back in. any tips, ideas, or help with whats going on now?

TIPS:

1- Visit go-pokemon.com
Thats pokemons main website. There you can find leagues near you, upcoming premier events, making a my pokemon account, and alot more.

2- Visit pokegym.net
This has been the most popular forum community website for pokemon since 1999 when pokemon was distributed with WOTC. The website has a lot of things you can do if your a new player. You could post one of your decks and get deck help, ask questions on rulings that you dont know for sure, or just see whats going on in the pokemon community around the world. I'd recommend this site over all others.

3- Vist pokebeach.com
This site is basically the same as the pokegym except it has cooler scans, spoilers and alot of japanese news which will eventually hit the US. This would be my 2nd pick for another website to get started with questions or help.

4- Visit pokepedia.net
This is my personal favorite site to visit before I go to a tournament! Here you can print a decklist which is so much easier then writing. I mainly use this site for that one feature. But it has alot more that shows interest.

5- Visit pojo.com
Thats right. HERE! Pokemon has ok forums on this website. Pojos been in the game with pokemon since 1999. So they're always reliable. There forums aren't the best but the main page is just incredible.

When you make a deck:

1- See which pokemon interests you that you wanna play for modified format.
2- Think of a pokemon that would go along with the other pokemons concept.
3- Think of a effective strategy and try to make it consistent.
4- Get deck sleeves for your cards so you dont ruin them.
5- If your stuck ask for deck help. (Websites, friends, league)

Five easy steps to get in the game:

1- You should find a distributor whos makes pokemon and go check that place out.
2- Buy starter decks, packs, or cards from Holon Phantoms, Crystal Guardians, Dragon Frontiers, Power Keepers, Diamond and Pearl, and the upcoming Mysterious Treasures.
3- Join a league. You can look for leagues online at go-pokemon.com
4- See if any of your friends wanna play as well so you always have someone to play with.
5- Pokemon has held Cities, States, Regionals, Battle Roads, and Nationals for the United States premier events this year. The World Championships is two weeks away which is invite only and also another premier event. The only way you could play in these events is if you had a modifed format deck. You should learn what the modified format is if your looking to play in premier events. (Modified format excludes prereleases or drafts) The 07-08 format will be HP-ON

I think this pretty much covers everything on getting started into pokemon.
