Ability: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls
against any ship.
This ship has a certain infamy among the members of
my gaming group; it's the "400-lb gorilla" of the
Dangerous Lady Lora. She's had good success with it
every time she used it.
I have to admit, I don't understand the special
ability. Why not just make them all 3L cannons and
be done with it? The only things you can shoot at,
aside from ships, are forts (quite uncommon) and
Marines on land (even more rare). So what this ship
boils down to is a basic five-master with the usual
stats across the board, for a reasonable but not
great price. Fighting is her role, although you
could make her a boarding beast with some of the
many French boarding crew. For fighting crew, I'd
use a Helmsman (of course), BC Jordan Dumas
(move/shoot and reroll), Gentil de la Barbinais
(world-hater), and a Cannoneer.
Unfortunately, L'Aube is not the best French gunship
out there; she isn't even close, in terms of cannons
or value. If she's the only French fiver you've got,
she doesn't stink. But you can do better.
