Cadet-Captain Mike

Name: USS Destiny (USA)

Card: FS #012 (Rare)

Points: 5

Masts: 1

Cargo: 2

Moves: S+S

Guns : 3L

Hit %: 50 (S), 50 (L)

Ability: You can double the range of this ship’s cannons each turn, but you must roll a 6 to hit.

Yesterday's one-masted ship got a poor review from me. This one does a little better, mostly because of her lower price tag. In fact, she is exactly the second USA ship to cost only five points.

The Destiny, which looks like an ad for US savings bonds, can run gold efficiently, but not much of it. She has one decent gun, and just enough speed to make use of it, plus her ability. That combination makes her a sniper, with a 50/50 chance of tagging something from L range, or a 1 in

6 chance at L+L range. I'd definitely put a Captain and Helmsman on her, and hide her behind something big and bad until it's time for her to shoot. She'd be ideal as a partner to a bigger ship that gets +1 if its target was shot at this turn, but I don't think the Americans have any of those. Just don't let her get shot at. Like any one-master, being a target is bad for her health.

The bottom line: for five points, you don't expect another Franklin. The USS Destiny gives fair value for her cost, and that's all I ask of any ship.

Value for points: 3.4 / 5

Draco Starcloud USS Destiny

If you want a cheap way to try and pick off an enemy mast or two, the USS Destiny might be a good choice for you.

It can get into good positions fairly quickly with a base move of S+S before using its double-range guns to dissuade enemies from encroaching on your gold runners. It might be better to give USS Destiny a helmsman than a captain in this case, though if you have points to spare you could include both. Her gun is already a 3L, so it's not totally bad if the enemy gets close, but flight would probobly be better than fight if any bigger enemy were close enough to be shot.

Having only two cargo spaces on USS Destiny is okay since she only has five points to put towards crew.

Overally, a decent support fighter. If you have the points to spare, use it. Otherwise, maybe it'd be better off waiting at home.

I give the USS Destiny a 2.5/5.
