Ability: One of this ship’s treasures is worth +2 gold when unloaded at your home island.

When Pirates first came out, the Spanish were a compromise between the English, who were all about fighting, and the Pirates, who were all about gold. Spain's navy has weaved a bit toward combat since then, but all good Spanish players know that Spain still loves its gold. Ships like this one are the proof.

Five cargo and the gold-plus-two ability means that Concepcion is a gold ship. Her speed isn't so good, but her price is low enough that you could add a Helmsman without breaking the bank. Now she's got the speed to get treasure, and plenty of room left to carry it. Her price is about average for four masts, and her cannons are nothing to write home about, so gold is the only job you'd want to give this ship. She could go out ramming and boarding, but that would be a waste of her big cargo holds.

For one point less, you could get El Alquimista, with S+L speed, 4 cargo, three masts, and the same ability. El Alquimista is a better value. But if you don't own that ship, this one can serve you well in a gold-grabbing role.

Goldship rating: 3.2 / 5
Gun Ship rating: 2.5 / 5
Boarding rating: 3.0 / 5

Cannons: S4, S3, S3, S4

Flavor Text: Rumors persist that the Concepcion never leaves a port without her hold brimming with gold, making her a marked ship by those who value Spanish wealth.

Finally, an exceptional ship from the pack. When I first saw this ship, I wasn't stunned by it, because I think I overlooked its vital role in the game as a treasure hauler. I saw the decent cannons, decent move, and fairly decent ability and thought, "OK, this ship is pretty average." But, I was wrong. This ship is (probably) going to be one of the best treasure ships from the pack. It has the crucial 5 cargo, plus a great treasure ability. Of course, you'll need the helmsman to make it a better ship, but with the helmsman it becomes really quite good.
So, just add the one crew, and it becomes a 14-point, S+L-moving treasure ship with 4 cargo and 4 masts to help defend itself if someone picks a fight with it. This is going to be a ship that I look for in the new pack for sure -- my Spanish fleet is pretty good, but they don't have any treasure runners. This baby is an amazing treasure runner who could help me out a lot.
