Ability: This titan eliminates two masts with one hit.

There's been much speculation about the name "Raninoidea." It is actually a Latin scientific name for a family of crabs. The part that says "no idea" is just a coincidence.

A Titan is effectively a cross between a ship and a sea monster. It can take crew and must stay on the surface, like a ship, but it cannot get a Repair action, like a sea monster. It can walk across islands and park on them. Oddly, the rules say a Titan can move in any direction, but cannot change its facing.

This Titan is the most expensive "ship" in the Pirate faction, except for the ten-masted Zeus. It is the fastest 20-plus-pointer in the game, aside from sea dragons and the Sleigh. Its ability to take out up to eight masts in one attack is equalled only by HMS Leicester. I'd give her a Captain, or a crew like Griffin (Captain and reroll), plus the original Calico Cat (SAT on 5-6), and send her out looking for all the trouble she could find. One problem is that a giant crab's claws are so far apart that it may be hard to get all four of them into S range of one ship. Since two hits from this crab will dismast a four-masted ship, that may not be a big deal. Something this powerful and fast, with a potential second action, could clean up the sea lanes in jig time.

21 points is a lot, though. Raninoidea is a tough fighter, but she can't turn and she can't repair battle damage, so if a fast, skilful enemy got behind her, the fleet would be eating crab cakes for a month.
If she were a ship, I'd give her a 4.5, but the weaknesses of the Titan keyword hold her back.

Total rating: 3.5 / 5
