Cadet-Captain Mike Name: Ghost Walker
Card: OE #141 (Special Edition)
Points: 15
Faction: USA

Masts: 3 (rating: 3 / 5)
Cargo: 4 (rating: 3 / 5)
Moves: L (rating: 2 / 5)

Hit %: 201 (S), 201 (L)
Keyword: Windcatcher.
Ability: Once per turn, one crew or ship within S of this ship cannot use its ability that turn.

I need to start by saying I own one of these and can't wait to use her in battle.

The Windcatcher keyword means you can measure her move from her stern instead of her bow, and turn her as you move. In practice, this means that the more she turns, the faster she goes. Her hull is about L long, so basic geometry means that if she goes straight ahead, her move is L; if she makes a 90-degree turn, her bow moves 2L from where it started; and if she does a 180-degree turnabout, her bow moves a blistering 3L.
That's fast.

Three excellent cannons and the canceller ability spell "fighter" to me. She can use her special movement to swerve away from an enemy, then reverse course and swoop in to take the first shots, which will usually hit. The canceller can negate any ability; if the enemy ship has no defensive ability that annoys you, then negate his Captain or Cannoneer. All the crew she needs for this is a Captain, but a Helmsman would add even more speed, at any angle of movement. I'd rather add a Musketeer for a fourth cannon, which would make this killer into an assassin.

Alternately, she'd make a good gold ship. Gold ships are always doing 180-degree turns after they load up, which would give the Ghost Walker the chance to burn rubber several times in a game. She has the cargo for it, too. But 15 points is too much for a gold runner; there are better choices available, and a steady S+L move will usually get you further than a sudden lunge followed by a series of L moves.

I like this ship. A lot. She has the potential to do major damage to anything, even the old El Acorazado with her two-hit masts. Her only drawback is her own masts; she has only three of them, which leaves her vulnerable to big fighting ships if she can't get the drop on them.

Flavor Text:Designed in secret by some of the top naval minds in the United States, the Ghost Walker is an experimental ship that sails the seas spying on friends and foe alike so that the admiralty can be prepared for all future operations.

Yeah, I have so many beefs with this ship. First of all, if it's SO secret, then why do the Pirates get one? Oh, wait. It's their game, they get what they want. Also, for having a name like Windcatcher, it's not very fast. Also, to my knowledge, there was no such thing as a windcatcher. :/ It's almost like the whole expatriate/ex-patriot fiasco. Yeah, also, who in their right mind would pay 15 points for a

3 mast ship unless it was a Longship or submarine? Huh? Wait a minute, don't the Americans have a 3 mast longship with the same affect, yet it is faster? Yeah, they do. USS Kettering! It's faster, has 6 cannons, however they are all 3L cannons. So, why use it? It's big, making it a prime target. Heck, you could get the Bonhomme Richard.

I'd take that over this thing. However, its effect is useful allowing you to bypass annoying special abilities, and even things like the captain ability, allowing you to get the first shot. And who knows, Ghost Walker might actually live up to its awesome name.

Its rating? a 2/5.
It would've gotten higher if only there wasn't a better ship to do the job. :/
