Ability: Once per turn, you may reroll any die roll you make for this ship; you must use the second die roll result.

My standard comment with any icebreaker is, "Regardless if she's good or bad, if you play with a lot of icebergs on the table, you need this ship." This one is a limited-edition ship, so she may not be easy to find. If you can get her, though, she'll see a lot of action. She isn't the Vikings' only icebreaker, but she's a decent ship for the lowest price you'll find in the Viking faction.

Cargo and guns are average; speed is a bit low, but not badly so. The reroll ability usually comes into play if a ship gets rammed, gets in a boarding action, or attacks with so-so cannons. Polaris' cannons certainly qualify; since each one has a 50/50 chance of missing, the reroll ability works like a built-in Cannoneer, and makes her a better fighter than she looks. Give her the usual Captain and Helmsman and send her out to bust icebergs and bust heads.

Oddly enough, she's one of the most cost-effective fighters the Vikings have. They have no cheaper ships, and their other 12-pointers are both one-masted longships that die like flies when the cannonballs start flying. Their other icebreaker, the Beowulf, costs one point more, and her ability is all about boarding. If you like the Vikings, and you also like fighting, this 12-pointer is a better value of guns to points than anything else you can get. Her icebreaking ability is almost a bonus.

The Polaris, overall, is a pretty average ship. But compared to most Viking ships, she's somewhat better than average.

Ah, another typical icebreaker. Slow move, average cargo, average cannons, and medium point cost. They all seem to be close to the same ship. This ship, again, is necessary for battles in which you are using icebergs, but other than that, it really doesn't do you much good. I suppose you could fight with it, and its ability gives you a second dice roll, which could be useful for a missed shot, but it really only averages 2 successful hits per turn. It is a low point cost for a decent ship, but you could use the points for something more useful.
If you were going to use it to fight, it would definitely need a helmsman (you'd probably want to put one on it anyways to ram icebergs quicker) and a captain. That's only 17 points, but why fuss over an icebreaker? My verdict is to put it in if you're using icebergs, leave it out if you aren't.
An average ship with a helpful ability, I'm gonna go so far as to give it a 3/5.

Flavor Text: Some say that the modern Viking movement comes from a vision seen by Captain Wahlstrom: Odin rising from the ice and commanding him to take back the seas from the evil of the Cursed and the violators of the Viking code.

Not bad flavor text. Actually, this isn't all that bad of a ship to begin with. It has average stats, but you can reroll any die for the ship. It is a good choice for the Viking flag ship if you have Sigurd Andersen, a fleet admiral, and gives +1 to cannon rolls against the cursed, possibly giving this ship 2 rank cannons. However, the Polaris is a bit expensive for what you get, (Then again, all the Viking ships are pretty overpriced to begin with.) but the Polaris is a great help for the Vikings, especially in a game where you placed icebergs, or somebody else has. I personally would recommend this ship over the Beowulf in all cases, unless you're going up against Sea Monsters.
