Pirates of the Crimson Coast #004 - Eagle

Name:  Eagle

Set: POCC

Card #s: 004

Rarity: Uncommon

Type: Ship

Cost: 9 Points

Masts: 4

Cannons: 3S, 2L, 2L, 3S

Cargo: 5

Movement: 1L

Faction: Pirates

Ability –  “Spanish ships get +1 to their cannon rolls against this ship.’

Flavor Text – “As soon as marauding pirates dispatched the crew of L'Aquila, they raided Captain Alarico Castro's private supply of amontillado, the famed Spanish sherry.”

This ship is the SAME ship as the Spanish Main vessel “L’Aguila”, only instead of her cool treasure stealing ability; this vessel has a negative ability.  OK then.  I guess saving 4 points is nice.  But this ship is still really over-costed, by at least one point.  Use her as a secondary attacked if you must.

Next Week: All new, all different.  I think.

~PucKviruS The Eagle has quite an interesting ability that begs the ship to be rammed into a pirate treasure laden ship. While it only has a movement of 1 L doesn't excite me for this purpose. However one can easily add a Helmsman with out sacrificing the ships cargo hold to make up for the movement. I really don't favor the 2 short range cannon for offense, but the fact that they added 2 long range cannon at rank 2 would make me consider this as a primary or secondary flag ship. Especially when the point value for this 4 mast ship is low enough to not make me cringe with its cargo space of 5.

My rating - 3.5/5. This is an above average 4 mast ship that has an interesting ability.

Eagle-

The Eagle is a good ship for the point cost. Its effect is going to happen as often as the good version.

It is a good ship to fit into a small 30-40 point fleet if your left with no other options

Eagle- 2.6/5

If Spain is not popular in your area, you'd better find a good reason not to at least consider including this in your fleet. Look at what you get for nine points! The cannons are solid, the movement is average, the cargo space is above average...it's hard not to like this ship.
Getting the crap kicked out of it by Spanish ships can be annoying, but I think it's worth it because it's so cheap. The 3S cannons aren't that great, but the 2L cannons sure are...I'm sure I wouldn't like this as much if it had 3L and 2S instead. A good ship to consider, and only an uncommon to boot.

Rating: 3.5/5

Ability - Spanish Ships get Ý to their cannon rolls against this ship.

Eagle is a great value ship. She has four guns, two of which are average, but two of which are 2-rank and long range, which is as good as it gets. She also has a decent 5 cargo spaces.
Her base move isn't great, but at least it's a single long not a single short!
But most importantly, she only costs 9 points!
That's 9 points for a ship with good cargo capacity and four average or better guns.
That's a winning prescription for a second-string gunship, with the flexibility to double as a treasure hauler too.
Hers is a 'negative ability', and if you know you're going to be playing against the Spanish, I guess it might give you pause for thought for a moment or two... but at that measly points price - who the Hell cares?! I'd still take the risk.

My rating - 4/5. Not quite 'one of the best pieces in the game', but in value-for-points terms, certainly up there near the top of the pile when choosing a pirate fleet.
