The Femme Fatale of the Crimson Coast has the same ability as the HMS Lord Algernon, and Joaquin Vega from the Spanish Main set, and I’d wager dollars to doughnuts that this ability shows up again in the future, because after all, it’s a doozy.  For this type of ship, you MUST have a Helmsman, because of that single S movement, she’s going to stay out of a lot of French fleets.  Not only is a Helmsman necessary but a Shipwright is also necessary, in order to keep your ability active.  That’s two cargo slots that are pretty much absolutely necessary in order to play this ship, and for me, that’s too many.  Still, she’s not a horrible vessel by any stretch, just for me she has too many holes to fill.  That’s called BALANCE in other games.

For a five masted rare, this ship isn’t selling for a lot of money.  In fact it’s BARELY going for more than an uncommon.  That’s NOT a good sign.

Collectability 3 of 5

Next time – Wednesday is Crewfers day– Pippin has a combo crew to look at.

Aethereal La Ville de Paris

This is a decent gunship for 16 points. You get some nice cannons (2 S-range and 3 L-range, all 2-rank) and a fairly decent ability that basically says you

have to first hit her twice before you can start doing any damage. This obviously goes well with a Shipwright, so you can replace the lost mast and regain

the ability to dodge the first hit you take. My only issue with this ship is its movement speed. S is slow, and while you can improve this to S+S by adding

a Helmsman, that's still a little slow. The 16 point cost is quite low for a ship like this, though, and the five cargo slots allow you to use a variety of

crew on her if you need to. At the very least put a Helmsman and a Captain on this ship, but if you know that you're not going to be going up against

Mermaids, a Shipwright makes an excellent addition as well.

Pippin La Ville De Paris

This ship ignores the first hit she takes each turn as long as she has all of her masts.

Like a true Parisian lady of fashion, La Ville de Paris usually dismisses the first insult from an opposing ship<but woe betide the foe who presumes to fires a second shot!

Ah the French. If D-Day gained us anything it was the undying and blind love of the French. Uh, wait, no they hate us.

Oh well. Here is a ship that sums up the French arrogance of the time period. A ship that shrugs off her first shot is a nifty little ship indeed, and it;s good to see actual ability compliment the flavor text. 16 points ain't the highest in the game, but 5 2rank cannons are the best you can get.
She seems to pull a Monty Python, a shot is fired *thick French accent* "Go Away Before I Taunt You a Second Time! Your Mother Was Hamster and Your Father Smelt of Eldaberries!" (for a complete translation of this insult, please e-mail me, as for now, we are a family oriented website)

Her base move is an S, just an S. So a helmsman is NEEDED just to get her to par. A double or extra move-roller would do well here. Even with this shortcoming, the French fleet needed a big gun, and they got one in a big way. It has the potential to be very nasty, but is no hurry to get anywhere.

REVIEW!

Points: 4/5 - 16 points for a 5 mast is right at par, and her guns make her WELL worth it. A french gun fleet needs this.

Ability: 4/5 - Not quite as good as the Constitution, but a runner up. Her movement limitations are also a bother.

Collectibility: 4/5 - A rare 5 mast ship with huge accurate guns. And shes French ("que? C'est francais?" You might say? Yes she is). This makes her desirable.

Until next time, I'M FRENCH! CAN'T YOU TELL BY MY OUTRRRRRRRRAGEOUS ACCENTA!!

I M Einstein La Ville De Paris

La Ville is a great 5 master coming at only 16 points. It has a defesive effect and very low cannon accuracy. The speed is TERRIBLE at S. 5cargo capacity makes a great overall ship.

Cargo: 5, good for a five mast ship. You can put lots of crew on this ship. 4/5

Cannons: These are some of the best cannons in the game. At 2 it has a 2/3 chance of hitting. Since the S is at the front and back cannons, get in close range to use this ship as a hunter. 5/5

Speed: S, Horrible! add a helmsman! 1/5

Effect: The effect doesn't help nor hurt the ship, it just protects it. 3/5

Overall a 4/5, a great five master.
