Performapal Ladyange

Performapal Gentrude – #DIFO-EN001

Pendulum Effect – If “Performapal Ladyange” is in your other Pendulum Zone and you control no monsters, or only Pendulum Monsters: You can add 1 “Odd-Eyes” card from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of “Performapal Gentrude” once per turn.
Monster Effect – If this card is destroyed: You can place 1 “Performapal” Pendulum Monster from your Deck in your Pendulum Zone, except “Performapal Gentrude”. If this card is face-up in your Extra Deck: You can discard 1 Pendulum Monster; add this card to your hand, then you can return 1 “Performapal” or “Odd-Eyes” card from your Pendulum Zone to the hand. You can only use 1 “Performapal Gentrude” effect per turn, and only once that turn.

Performapal Ladyange – #DIFO-EN002

Monster Effect – You can discard this card and 1 “Performapal” monster, except “Performapal Ladyange”; draw 2 cards. If this card is in your GY and you control an “Odd-Eyes” card or “Performapal Gentrude”: You can place this card in your Pendulum Zone. You can only use 1 “Performapal Ladyange” effect per turn, and only once that turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Starting things off with a double Performapal CoTD this week, first with Performapal Gentrude.

A Level 4 DARK Fiend with a scale of eight, Gentrude as a monster carries searcher stats for ATK/DEF, which aren’t bad for a Level 4. Gentrude gives you any Performapal from your Deck into a Pendulum Scale upon being destroyed in any fashion, which makes it a great searcher and 1-for-1 for the archetype, as a well as an add-in if a Pendulum Deck is running multiple Performapals. Gentrude bringing itself from the Extra Deck (face-up) back to the hand as well as another Pendulum from your scales gives you the ability to get an extra Pendulum Zone effect that turn, as well as swap in something better for your zones. Discarding a Pendulum Monster from your hand is hardly a cost unless you are strapped for cards at the moment. Would be better if it were a Quick Effect so you could respond to a destruction effect involving your Pendulum Zone(s).

As a Pendulum Zone card, Gentrude can be another Odd-Eyes search card if you run any. Any Odd-Eyes card is able to be searched but you need the next card we’re reviewing: Performapal Ladyange. She needs to be in a Pendulum Zone and you need to have only Pendulum Monsters or no monsters. This effect sounds like a good turn 0 move if you have both Pendulum Zone cards handy. This effect can be useless if you don’t have Ladyange in the deck or have run out of copies of her, but Gentrude is a scale of eight, giving you range for your Pendulum Summons.

Useful more as a monster as it needs less to accomplish its effects. The ability to pay you back on destruction and then get itself back next turn from the Extra Deck are good effects. Wish the search wasn’t dependent on Ladyange because as we’ll discuss, her Pendulum Zone effect isn’t dependent on him. Still a decent Pendulum on his own.

Performapal Ladyange is the counterpart to Gertrude and the second card we’re looking at.

First, lets look at the Pendulum Effect. Discard a Pendulum Monster to drop an opponent’s ATK by 1000 for the turn. Simple, effective, and 1000ATK drop can help out the lower ATK Pendulum Monsters that may be on the board. 1000ATK can be the difference between winning and losing a fight and would give your opponent pause if you had cards in your hand.

Like Gertrude though, Ladyange is better as a monster. Discarding her and another Pendulum Monster gets your a draw two. An even swap until Ladyange can pop herself back into the Pendulum Zone if you have an Odd-Eyes or Gertrude that you control. Gertrude can get Ladyange back to the Pendulum Zone after you have used her discard effect, then Gertrude can bring itself back from the Extra Deck and bring Ladyange back to the hand with him to be used as part of her discard effect. While Gertrude doesn’t have a grave effect and will be stuck there until you move him via another effect, Ladyange can be searched by Gentrude, Gentrude can get them together in the hand to be used for Ladyange’s discard to draw ability, and Gentrude can search any Odd-Eyes card if the two of them are in the Pendulum Zones together.

Ladyange does have more to work with than Gentrude when it comes to her effects. Great draw ability for the deck type, recover ability from the grave that mirrors Gertrude’s recover from the Extra Deck, and not even a bad Pendulum Zone effect that isn’t dependent on her counterpart. The “only once per turn” is killing both of these cards though.

From the D/D/D yesterday to a full on Pendulum week this week, mainly the Performapal/Odd-Eyes stuff starting with the two new Performapal Scales: Performapal Gentrude and Performapal Ladyange.

We’ll start with Performapal Ladyange, a Level 3 Scale 1 LIGHT Fairy Pendulum with 1000 ATK and 1500 DEF. Okay-ish stats for Level 3, LIGHT is a great Attribute to work with, and Fairy is a fine typing. The Pendulum Effect is a soft once per turn, triggering when an attack is declared involving your monster and an opponent’s, letting you discard a Pendulum Monster to make the opponent’s monster lose 1000 ATK for the turn. Honestly,  most Pendulum Monsters don’t want to be discarded, but there are a select few. Either way, doing such for a 1000 ATK decrease for a battle doesn’t seem too worth it, though it should nearly ensure you win that battle if it actually doesn’t do such. I wish it was more Honest-like, debuffing by the ATK of the discarded monster, but at least you get a higher decrease when discarding a weaker monster. The Monster Effects on this is where it’s at mainly, letting you discard this and a Performapal monster that isn’t another Ladyange to draw 2. It’s a nice draw 2 option, though it doesn’t actually generate any plusses. Second effect triggers in the graveyard if you got a Odd-Eyes card or Performapal Gentrude, letting you put this in the Pendulum Zone, which does work with its other effect that let you draw. It’s just you only get one effect per turn and only once that turn for the Monster Effects, ensuring you can’t do both in the same turn and limiting the potential of this card. Feels like something you could honestly pass on, but it isn’t the worst Performapal.

Advanced Rating: 2/5

Art: 4.5/5 It’s cute, but not my favorite. Might be the best looking Performapal still.

Next up is Performapal Gentrude, a Level 4 Scale 8 DARK Fiend Pendulum with 1500 ATK and 1000 DEF. Again, okay-ish stats for Level 4 in this instance, but DARK and Fiend is another nice combo, and this being a Scale 8 to go with Ladyange’s Scale 1 is good. Pendulum Effect triggers if you got Performapal Ladyange in your other Pendulum Zone and you either control no monsters or only Pendulum Monsters, letting you add any Odd-Eyes card from Deck to hand. I mean, always take a free search when you can get it. Performapals are highly searchable, so it shouldn’t be hard to get both this and Ladyange at the same time if you needed at the very least. Gentrude’s Pendulum Effect is a hard once per turn, since searching is better than ATK reduction. First Monster Effect triggers upon destruction (which can be in the Pendulum Zone), letting you place a Performapal that isn’t Gentrude from the Deck to your Pendulum Zone, helping keep Scales setup once this is gone, potentially off Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer. Second effect triggers in the Extra Deck face-up, letting you discard a Pendulum Monster to add this back to the hand, and then you can return a Performapal or Odd-Eyes in your Pendulum Zone to your hand. I mean, I still don’t get all the discarding in Pendulums since that’s not what you want to do with most of them, especially Performapals. Hard once per turn on each effect as well. It’s not terrible, but I’m not sold on Gentrude either really. He’s ok, just like Ladyange, but you got a ton of better Performapals than this.

Advanced Rating: 2.25/5

Art: 4.5/5 Ladyange has the cute factor, but Gentrude has the cool factor.

We get a double dose of Performapal to open the week, and first we look at Performapal Gentrude.  Level 4, Dark/Fiend (still great) middling stats at 1500/1000 but a good Pendulum Scale here at 8 for a Level 4.  The Monster side lets you put a Theme Pendulum Monster in your Pendulum Zone when this card is destroyed (by either player, in any manner, so you’re going to get that, a lot).  Naturally, it can’t choose itself with this Effect.  If face-up in your Extra Deck, you can discard another Pendulum Monster to add this to your Hand; then return a Performapal or Odd Eyes Pendulum card from your Field back to your Hand.  That’s a big -2 right there, as you discard AND return a Pendulum Monster just to bring this to your Hand, and that’s a big no from me friends.  You can only use one Effect per Turn, and only once per Turn.  That seems like total overkill, cause this thing is nowhere NEAR that good.  There are plays, sure, but nothing so broken it needed to be so negative in advantage and so limited in use.

The Pendulum Side, as mentioned, is a Scale 8, which is nice.  If Ladyange (coincidentally our other card) is in your other Pendulum Zone OR you control no non-Pendulum Monsters, you can add an Odd Eyes card from your Deck to your Hand.  This is…slightly more useful, but there’s easier ways to fetch cards like that without even having to bother with Pendulum at all.  This card just misses a bunch of the marks for me, and while certainly not useless, there are many better options out there.

Rating:  2/5

Art:  3.5/5  Definitely a Fiend…the background here is cooler than the art on Gentrude himself.

Performapal Ladyange is our second card today, as mentioned above, and is Level 3, with the inverted stats of Gentrude, and a Light/Fairy, also both good together.  Having a Pendulum Scale of 1 is fine, especially on a lower Level Monster.  For the Monster side, discarding this and another Theme Monster (not even a Pendulum, just another Performapal) lets you Draw 2 cards.  Absolutely nothing not to like about that.  It’s a fair, honest, easy 2-for-2.  If in the Graveyard, and you control Gentrude or an Odd Eyes card, you can place this in your Pendulum Zone.  Also, SO much easier to use and abuse than Gentrude, like they made him purposefully bad because she’s so good?  Similarly to Gentrude, you can use One Effect per Turn, and only once per Turn.

The Pendulum Side, as said, has a scale of 1, which is workable.  The Pendulum Effect is much simpler and more useful as well (and not dependent on another card, albeit a discard is required) where once per Turn you can discard a Monster when your opponent attacks to have said Monster lose 1000 attack.  Most of these Performapals have low attack, so as long as you’re not up against a big boss Monster (say 2500+ attack) that should actually come in handy often, so long as you have the Pendulum to discard.  It doesn’t have to be a Theme one either, just any Pendulum.  Ladyange blows Gentrude out of the water folks (maybe cause she’s that beautiful?).  Oh, and that Monster loses the 1000 attack for the Turn, not the Battle, so if your Monster ends up destroyed, you can attack over it while it’s weaker with something else.  Love it

Rating:  4/5

Art:  4.5/5  She’s gorgeous, but not quite there for a 5 from me, sorry Austin (I’m just pre-assuming he’s 5/5 this cards art, but I may be wrong)

Oh no! Performapal week! This week covers the Performapal and Pendulum support featured in Dimension Force. Pendulum decks in general are in a tough spot in the meta, being simultaneously too complex for their own good, yet also lacking in the sheer power or consistency that makes a deck viable in Yugioh. Still, we’re starting the week with another double feature, this time with Performapal Gentrude and Performapal Ladyange.

Performapal Gentrude is a level 4 DARK Fiend Pendulum monster, which is fairly normal for a Performapal and a nice set of qualities overall, being usable as Rank 4 Xyz fodder. It also has a Pendulum Scale of 8, which is expected for a Performapal since they really want to Pendulum summon the (usually) level 7 Odd-Eyes monsters. 1500 attack and 1000 defense are not spectacular stats at all, but as always, combo pieces usually don’t battle unless something went terribly wrong.

Gentrude’s Pendulum effect is a hard once per turn and can only be activated if you control either no monsters or only Pendulum monsters, and if Performapal Lagyange is in your other Pendulum Zone. This effect lets you search any Odd-Eyes card, including the myriad of monsters, Odd-Eyes Fusion, and Odd-Eyes Advent, which is quite. You might think Performapal Ladyange would help set this card up, but we’ll get to that later. The effect is nice, but setting it up is a little harder than one would think, even with Beyond the Pendulum.

Meanwhile, Gentrude has two hard once per turn monster effects, and you can only use one per turn. Gentrude’s first effect triggers if it’s destroyed, allowing you to place a Performapal Pendulum monster straight from your deck to a Pendulum Zone. While you’ll need to use some Pendulum Magician or Dracoslayer monster to get full use of this effect, it is pretty handy. Gentrude’s other effect allows you to discard a Pendulum monster to add Gentrude back to your hand from your Extra Deck and bounce a Performapal or Odd-Eyes monster in your Pendulum Zone back to your own hand. Again, a helpful effect if you can get it to trigger, which will likely be the turn after you destroy it to activate the first effect. I’m never too big on “once per turn one per turn”, and I’m not sure why they balanced this card so hard, but I suppose it makes sense. Overall, still an okay card for Performapal combos, if you really wanted to use it.

Advanced: 2.75/5
Art: 4/5 Funky little man, like most Performapals.

———————————————————————————————–

The companion card to Gentrude is, of course, Performapal Ladyange, which is a level 3 LIGHT Fairy Pendulum monster. Makes sense for the art, but did it really have to be level 3? IT does have the coveted Pendulum scale of 1, so it’ll help Pendulum summon almost anything that’s not level 1 itself. It has the reverse stats of Gentrude, with only 1000 attack and 1500 defense, so nothing particularly noteworthy.

Ladyange’s Pendulum effect is a soft once per turn, allowing you to discard a Pendulum monster when your monster battles an opponent’s monster, reducing the opponent’s monster’s attack by 1000 until the End Phase. A weak and telegraphed Honest effect; while not entirely useless, it might as well not be there in terms of combo potential and the effect itself is outdated.

Bizarrely, also like Gentrude, Ladyange has two hard once per turn, one per turn effects. You can discard Ladyange and another Performapal to draw 2 cards. Notably, since you’re discarding Pendulum monsters, they’ll still go to the Graveyard instead of the Extra Deck, so it’ll at least set up Ladyange’s other effect while digging for more cards. Ladyange’s second effect allows you to place it directly to your Pendulum Zone while you control an Odd-Eyes monster or Gentrude, which would be amazing, if not for the fact this card is probably only in the Graveyard because of its first effect, which will lock you out of this effect! The effect is still applicable if you have other ways of sending Ladyange to the Graveyard, plus there’s nothing stopping you from manually searching Ladyange, but the same can be said for a lot of mediocre cards. You’ll probably be running one of these to combo with Gentrude, if you’re using Gentrude at all.

Advanced: 2/5

Art: 3.75/5 Her left arm looks a little…off? But otherwise the art is fine and cute.
