Hello Pojo Fans,

Painful Choice…wow.

Throwback Thursday going back to one of the most powerful cards throughout the entirety of Yu-Gi-Oh. Pull ANY 5 cards from your deck for free, get one chosen by your opponent, the rest go to the graveyard. I would love this card with my Exodia deck back then, filling my grave with Exodia limbs, hitting Backup Soldier, and waiting for Sangan or Witch on the field to get me my final piece. One very fond memory was using this card in both games against someone saying I was playing “too slow” and both games combined went 9 turns thanks to this. Anyways, too many decks benefit from the card. The cards that go to the graveyard are “discarded” and will not miss timing. Lightsworn, Shaddoll, Burning Abyss, Exodia, True Draco, True Dino, you get the picture. This card was broke once it came into existence and remains that way over a decade later. They would have to seriously change the text to bring this back.

That Grass Looks Greener has nothing on Painful Choice. The original and still the best way to get specific cards in the grave. No cost Spell Cards are a staple on the ban list. Painful Choice is never coming back because of how many cards would benefit from going to the graveyard. Throwback Thursday picked a real contender for best card on the ban list.

We are talking about cards that need GY setup, so might as well talk about one of the best GY setups in the game for Throwback Thursday, the Forbidden Painful Choice.

This card is banned for a reason. You select 5 cards in your deck, and your opponent lets you add one of those cards of their choice to your hand while the rest go to the GY. The opponent choosing the card doesn’t make this balanced because it is basically a pick your poison for them. This card was powerful in helping you set up the Yata Lock back in the day, and now it would be absurd considering all of the cards with GY effects. I don’t want to see this card come back ever, even though I do like seeing a little bit of chaos in the game from time to time. 😛
