Hello Pojo Fans,

Despite the name, Opening of the Spirit Gates is meant for Scared Beasts.

New Continuous Spell for the archetype, OotSG is another searcher for the deck upon activation…you can’t ever have too many searching cards for any archetype. Get your setup piece like Chaos Summoning Beast or Dark Beckoning Beast, or get the Sacred Beast of your choice to your hand for its summon. This in a top-deck war can get you to an instant Sacred Beast and with the new support allowing you to summon any of the Sacred Beasts a different way than their original intended way is something that was needed when the archetype first debuted. The 1-for-1 Special Summon ability revolves around your small monsters that do the most of your work to get to the Sacred Beasts and their support. Dark Beckoning Beast, Dark Summoning Beast, and Chaos Core are your best targets for easy revival and reuse with their effects, but like yesterday’s card, this card can also be used in other decks that use Fiend monsters with 0ATK/0DEF like Yubel and D/D or even Pendulum Monsters like the Supreme King cards. The Continuous Spell add back once per turn could be useful as long as you have a Level 10 monster available. All Sacred Beasts meet that criteria, as well as many more monsters, the only question is having a Continuous Spell in the grave, but with the ability to even add back a copy of itself, Gates makes sure you will get something if you have it available. In a Hamon-based strategy this effect fits right in with Rainbow Dragon and the Crystal Beasts, not to mention the other effects revolving around the Sacred Beast part of the strategy.

A Continuous Spell that does three things in one turn, and can activate two of its effects each turn to recycle cards is a fantastic card to have in any archetype. Gates on its own could be a one-card Sacred Beast summon and you could always discard a Continuous Spell to add back once you have a Level 10 on the field. Rarely does a Continuous Spell do so much and at the end of it all it could just be fodder for a traditional Hamon summon.

Want more consistency for Sacred Beasts? You got it with Opening of the Spirit Gates.

OotSG is a Continuous Spell that upon activation lets you search the Sacred Beasts or any monster that lists the Sacred Beasts in their text. It eliminates Spells and Traps, but it gets you to your monsters to help make use of the Sacred Beasts, or get to Dark Beckoning Beast if you do need a different Spell or Trap. More consistency is a plus, which is why you can only activate 1 of this a turn. The second effect is a soft once per turn, useful if you have multiple of these, where you can discard a card to revive a Fiend with 0 ATK or DEF from the graveyard. Easy way to get to your Summoning Beasts most likely to actually cheat out your Sacred Beasts. Dark Beckoning Beast is also fine to revive even if you don’t get its search just for another Normal Summon that turn. Chaos Core is fine if you want to trigger that as well. The last effect where if you control a Level 10 monster then you get a soft once per turn to add a Continuous Spell from grave to hand, which is nice to get back the cards you might have used to naturally summon Hamon, but having the recovery in general is good. Opening of the Spirit Gates is a key card for the archetype as well for more consistency, and another 3-of for Sacred Beasts.

Opening of the Spirit Gates is a Continuous Magic further adding to the assistance of the Sacred Beasts.  This starts off much like our card from yesterday.  Upon activation, you net a Sacred Beast or specific support card there in from your Deck to your Hand.  Which is still a good thing to see in a support card.  Furthermore to play into yesterdays card, discarding 1 card lets you Special Summon a Fiend with 0 attack and defense, which also like yesterday, makes this card playable in or out of Sacred Beasts.  It also opens up (still) your Link and Extra Deck plays.  So we appreciate all of that.  Finally, because this card doesn’t do enough, a Continuous Magic (once per turn) can be cycled from your Grave back to your Hand if you control a Level 1 Monster.  This part more specifically suits the Sacred Beast player but getting a free Magic card every turn potentially, anyway, isn’t anything to scoff at.  This card does a lot, and while it’s not a direct assist in Summoning, it’s still quite good.

Art:  3/5  I think an actual portal or something here would’ve been much cooler than this.  I don’t get any vibe of a gate here.
