Hello Pojo Fans,

Number S0: Utopic ZEXAL is our Throwback Thursday choice, appropriate as it is one of the main pieces in the Numeron strategy.

Needing three Number Xyz monsters with the same Rank is not an easy thing to do…unless you do it in Numerons. The Utopia way with discarding a Rank-Up Spell isn’t a bad way either, but you want as many materials on Utopic ZEXAL as you can get. The more materials, the higher the attack and the longer your opponent won’t get to play Yu-Gi-Oh. Complete negation and locking out ALL of your opponents cards for the turn at the cost of one detachment is beyond overpowered, especially with the ATK boost ZEXAL can have. Numerons make this card so easily it fits perfectly into the strategy. While you can make a deck around summoning it, and Rank 4-based decks like Six Samurai were at times were potentially able to summon this, the need to run a Rank-Up Spell(s) in the deck is what slows that strategy down. One card gets you to this in Numerons and that is why it is so good now. Your opponent can chain to negate, or tribute it with something from their hand, but if they don’t have an out they aren’t playing and might want to scoop it up to game two.

I thought it should’ve met the same fate in the TCG as it did in the OCG. Eventually it will hit the ban list, it is too powerful a card, summoned too easily in its current strategy to be left unchecked.

Throwback Thursday this week gives us a card that works great with Numerons and a card that many are calling for the banning of, Number S0: Utopic ZEXAL.

Utopic ZEXAL is always treated as a Rank 1 and is a LIGHT Warrior with ? ATK and DEF. It’s ATK and DEF are equal to the number of Xyz Materials it has times 1000, and considering this is easily summoned with at least 3 materials, you should have a decent body on board. LIGHT and Warrior are also nice. The standard summoning requirement are 3 Number Xyzs with the same Rank, which is something you didn’t typically do until the Numeron Gates were released. The alternative summoning condition is to overlay this on top of a Utopia monster by discarding a Rank-Up-Magic, which is a summoning condition that has gotten Argent Chaos Force banned for how easy this is to do. This card’s Xyz Summon cannot be negated and when Xyz Summoned your opponent cannot activate cards or effects, which guarantees this hits the board if you’re trying to summon it. The main effect is a Quick Effect on the opponent’s turn to detach a material to prevent them from using cards or effects for the rest of that turn, which gets very oppressive when you use this at the start of the turn and the opponent doesn’t have an Impermanence. It basically means the opponent can’t do anything except for summon, set, and attack which is not enough for how fast the game has gotten unless you are a Stun Deck setting a lot of backrow, which is weak to removal especially with Feather Duster being back. It’s a powerful card on the level of True King of All Calamities and probably isn’t healthy for the game. Preventing the opponent from playing at all is completely unfair and it wouldn’t surprise me to see this banned like how the OCG did recently with this. It’s just too oppressive of an effect.

Art: 5/5 It’s a pretty cool design, which is a positive.

This is probably the best card this week and that only intensifies Alex’s scowl…so much he refers to himself in third person.  Number S0: Utopix ZEXAL is our Throwback Thursday.  An interesting card, being initially Rankless, Light/Warrior, ? attack and defense, and needing 3 Number XYZ Monsters of the same Rank to be XYZ Summoned.  So we see discarding a Rank-Up Magic Normal Magic card and using a Utopia card can assist in the XYZ Summon of this card.  Which is helpful; quite helpful, in fact.

For a further benefit, the XYZ Summon of this card can’t be negated.  Always nice when something that needs a moderate (or large) investment is guaranteed to hit the Field.  It also comes with a mini lockdown builtin upon Summon, where your opponent can’t activate cards or effects.  Gaining 1000 attack and defense per XYZ Material is incredible.  Even just using Utopia you should have 2+, and if you actually use 3 Numbers to do so, you could be looking at 6+.

Plenty of ways to cycle and transfer XYZ Material too, so this card could easily be a sheer beast of attack.  Finally, a Quick Effect lets you detach an XYZ Material during your opponent’s turn, preventing them from activating cards or effects for the turn.  It’s fun you can only do that during their turn, but than can really mess some things up.  It’s a damn good card.
