Next up for Zexal throwbacks we got another boss monster retrain, this time yet another Utopia retrain with Number 39: Utopia Rising.

Utopia Rising is a Rank 4 LIGHT Warrior Xyz with 0 ATK and 2000 DEF. The DEF stat is fine enough to make up for no ATK for whatever reason, but a LIGHT Warrior is still great. 2 Level 4 monsters let you summon this, so generic. Upon being Special Summoned, you can target a Number Xyz in your graveyard that isn’t another Utopia Rising and Special Summon it in Defense Position, then you can detach all this card’s materials and attach them to the revived monster. Getting back a different Number monster is pretty nice considering how many good ones there are, and it gives said monster some Xyz Materials to ensure the effects of said monster are actually useful. It isn’t like this card needs Xyz Materials, cause the other effect triggers when you Xyz Summon, letting you revive this from the graveyard, but it’s banished when it leaves the field, putting another body on board at the very least. Hard once per turn on each effect, keeping things in check and unable to be looped. It’s an alright card that just feels like it lacks a purpose. You can’t really use Number monsters to summon any of the Number F0 monsters, so that’s off the table. The best use might be to revive a powerful Number Xyz and give it some materials again to make use out of it once more. There might be something here, just not right now.

Advanced Rating: 2.5/5

Art: 5/5 So of course you got Number 39: Utopia featured, but you can also see Number 100: Numeron Dragon and Number 73: Abyss Splash in the background as this card is based off the Duel between the team of Yuma and Nash against Don Thousand, specifically when Yuma attacked with his 204,000 ATK Utopia against Number iC1000 to end the Duel. The revival effect references when Nash used Bonds of Hope to revive Number 100 and attach said card and the materials on his Number 73 to Yuma’s Number 39. The revival from the graveyard and this card’s name also references when Yuma used Utopia Rising to revive Number 39: Utopia and give it the effects of both Numbers 73 and 100.
