Hello Pojo Fans,

Noh-P.U.N.K. Foxy Tune is one of the Level 8 monsters in the archetype and critical to getting to your Synchro Monster.

You’d like to see more ATK on a Level 8, but with the ability to tribute a P.U.N.K to Special Summon itself, you can see why that may be a bad thing. If you do battle and destroy a monster with Foxy Tune, you gain LP via that destroyed monster’s ATK. LP gain in any Psychic deck is usually a good thing, as they pay LP a lot. More LP mean more Counter Traps that cost LP.

Sending Foxy Tune from the hand/field to the grave, to then send another card from your hand to the grave, to Special Summon any non-Level 8 P.U.N.K. monster feels too much like a negative. You are giving up a monster on field/in your hand, a card in hand, to Special Summon from the deck. I know that monster you summon can get you a plus to even things back out, and Ukiyoe is the monster you want getting you to your Extra Deck plays, but that can fall flat if negated.

With the Level 8 monsters in the P.U.N.K. deck able to Special Summon themselves by popping a P.U.N.K. monster, you can get your bigger monsters out after plusing off your smaller Level 3’s. Foxy Tune may not take down a lot of opponent’s monsters, but it can get you a P.U.N.K. from the deck if you have that extra card to discard…and don’t mind the -1.

While Foxy Tune isn’t bad, it doesn’t feel great to me. Yeah, you can get to another of your monsters in the deck and potentially combo off and break even or even plus, but I feel like that is a play I’d only make if I didn’t have something I was directly doing with Foxy Tune, like setting up an Extra Deck Summon.

Now here’s a card the meta might be getting used to outside the pure P.U.N.K. strategy: Noh-P.U.N.K. Foxy Tune.

Foxy Tune is a Level 8 LIGHT Beast with 2300 ATK and 2600 DEF. Pretty decent stats, a fine Type and great Attribute. First effect is a soft once per turn, letting you gain LP equal to the original ATK of an opponent’s monster this destroys in battle, which should be nice when you’re paying 600 so often in this Deck. Everything following this is a hard once per turn, starting off with the ability to tribute a P.U.N.K. monster to summon this from the hand, giving you a Level 8 on board to help make your Level 11 Synchro with greater ease. Second effect lets you send this card from hand to grave alongside another card to summon a P.U.N.K. from Deck, as long as the monster isn’t Level 8. This is probably why you see this so often, with 3 Emergency Teleport being able to summon Ze Amin to search this and use the effect for another body on board, whether another Ze Amin or Madame Spider to search a disruptive Trap, all while setting up a potential Halqifibrax or Cherubini with the greatest ease in Decks that won’t mind losing 2 cards from hand, even if Foxy Tune was most likely searched. In the pure strategy, it’s still really good to get you to the Level 3 Tuner you need, or the Level 5 once that comes out. I imagine with that we might get a Level 8 Synchro, but that’s a discussion for another time. Foxy Tune is a pretty great card, good enough that it made P.U.N.K. a viable engine, yet it’s still the second best engine from Grand Creators, but another discussion for a future time. Either way, run 3 of this in P.U.N.K. and it seems to be a 1-of in the engine.

These cards are just one big pun, aren’t they?  Noh-P.U.N.K. Foxy Tune is a Level 8, Light/Beast pairing (fun) with middling stats at 2300-2600.  So first we see you can gain Lifepoints equal to the attack of a Monster this card destroys (once per Turn).  Nothing wrong with that, while that won’t be your A-strategy, a boost never hurts now and then.  Tributing a Theme Monster to Special Summon this from your Hand is a bonus, cutting your Tribute cost in half.  (Also not taking up your Normal Summon helps).  Lastly, you can send this card to your Grave from your Hand or Field, along with another card from your Hand (this can be any card) and if you do so, you get to Special Summon any Theme Monster (so long as it is NOT Level 8) from your Deck.  The Monster being straight from the Deck is a fantastic way to end this card.  A little odd they went out of their way to say Level 8 couldn’t be in that Effect instead of just the normal ‘other than myself’ clause.  The latter two Effects can be used once each, and once per Turn.  I do also appreciate you can use both in the same Turn.  This is an interesting one.  It’s a high Level combo card…that’s helps and hinders your overall strategy.  I wouldn’t go more than one on this.  I think any more would just get in the way.

Our next P.U.N.K. monster is Noh-P.U.N.K. Foxy Tune, a level 8 LIGHT beast, a rather unusual combination in general. It boasts a decent 2300 attack and 2600 defense for a level 8 monster, but do its effects justify it being level 8?

Foxy Tune’s first effect is a soft once per turn; if it destroys a monster by battle, you can recover LP equal to its original attack. This effect is obviously meant to help mitigate the LP costs of the low-level P.U.N.K.s, which is neat though with only 2300 attack it’s unlikely you’ll gain a super significant amount unless you’re really backed into a corner, in which case you probably won’t be attacking with Foxy Tune in the first place. Its second effect is a hard once per turn, allowing you to special summon it by tributing any P.U.N.K. monster, which is great since many P.U.N.K. cards specifically prevent you from special summoning their level 8 monsters for some reason. Foxy Tune’s last effect is also a hard once per turn, allowing you to send it from your hand or field to the graveyard, then sending another card from your hand to the graveyard to special summon a non-level 8 P.U.N.K. from your deck. While going -1 stings, getting access to Sharakusai and Ze Amin is pretty important, plus you’ll likely be integrating Foxy Tune into combos anyway where you’ll just have to accept the loss in advantage.

Art: 4/5 Fun fact: this is the same person in Noh-P.U.N.K. Ze Amin, who is apparently male according to the TCG Twitter account.
