  Island Kadoatie

Mystery Island Exp Set

Date Reviewed: 8.12.04

Average Rating: 4.13

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst. 3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating.

emdman Island Kadoatie is a petpet, so it’ll be great in petpet decks. It’s not as strong as its Base Set cousin, but you can equip it onto any pet/hero rather than just light pets. What’s very interesting is its effect. If you roll a 6, you can return an Item card to your opponent’s hand. This could be a four, a Negg, or better yet, a Snarling Totem. You could try using it with Battle Eyrie, that way you’ll have a second chance of rolling a 6. The downside is that you can only use the effect during your turn.

Rating: 4/5 in a deck that uses Battle Eyrie; 2/5 in other decks.

Island Kadoatie

Equipment | Petpet | Light

Strength 3 | Agility 2 | Magic 3 | Intelligence 2

To play this, tap one of your Light Neopets.  When you win a contest this Petpet's Neopet or Hero is in on your turn that isn't against a Villain by rolling a 6, you may choose an Item in your opponent's bank and return it to his or her hand.

4/100 MI HoloFoil

Just when you thought Petpet decks were powerful enough, along comes Island Kadoatie & Island Angelpuss.  The two are almost identical, except the stats are switched (reverse the 2's and 3's) and the Angelpuss returns equipment instead of items.  Still, put a pair of them on a Battle Eyrie, and things could get dangerous.  I'm pretty sure if you use two Island Kadoatie's on one pet, the effect stacks, but I still need to confirm that.

The only 'downsides' of this pet is that you have to tap a Light Neopet to bring it out (or use Armoury of Kass, Battle JubJub, or similar cards), that it's only 2 bank points (worth the effect), it only returns cards instead of destroying them, and that it's effect is somewhat limited by all the little restrictions:

1) Petpet's Neopet or Hero must be in contest.

2) Your turn only

3) Doesn't work against Villains

4) Must win by rolling a 6

But, when you figure you'll get 2-3 bonus stats in any arena anyway, this card really shows it's got lots of potential for multiple decks.

Ratings:

If this card doesn't fit into your deck, you'd better believe it will be highly tradeable for those that can use it.  I love bank disruption, so Island Kadoatie gets a 4.1 from me.  If we were rating it, the Angelpuss would get a 3.6 (people have far more items in their bank than equips).

p.s.  Sorry I messed up the stats and effect of Fish Negg yesterday.  Mike Becker had the correct ones  (oops!).

Bank: 2

This card has quite a nifty effect, and is exactly the same as Island Angelpuss (allowing you to have 6 of the same card in your deck, technically). First off, this is an Equipment card with relatively good stats. The +3 is alright, while the +2 isn't as nice. It also needs a Light Neopet to tap in order to play this, allowing it to fit into Light decks or bank-discarding decks. It is also a Petpet, so it fits perfectly with Kacheek Shephard decks.

The great thing about Island Kadoatie and Island Angelpuss (which is perhaps why they're Holofoil) is that when you win by rolling a 6, you get the chance to return a card in your opponent's bank to their hand, perhaps allowing you to take the lead. It would be much better if this were to discard the banked card, but that may be too much. As well, I'm pretty sure that two or more Island Kadoaties equipped to one Neopet cause two or more banked cards to return to that player's hand. This may not be the case, though. I'm not entirely sure.

4.3/5 - The Island Kadoatie and Island Angelpuss are actually very good. As well, they successfully take the regular Angelpuss and Kadoatie, and other Petpets like them, out of commission. Use this with Battle Eyrie or Space Faerie Doll to maximize the effect.
