Pojo's Naruto Fan Tips

 "Starter Stylings"
8.21.06
by Timekeeper

Like most people, I started this card game by purchasing a starter deck. That starter deck led to two, and now onto packs. But, packs are not important here. Starter Decks are.

Many other games, like Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokémon, and even Digimon, came out with various starter deck styles over the course of their run. Undoubtedly, the Naruto CCG will be doing the same. So, I've decided to start explaining my ideas for starter decks over the next few seasons of Naruto. Please note there WILL be series spoilers in some of the later decks...so you're reading at your own risk.

-Gaara Starter Deck: Unlike the Naruto and Sasuke Decks, this deck (and all the ones after it) would not come in two styles, but one. The deck would be a defensieve styled deck, running out your opponent's resources and then hitting them hard to win the game. Recurring ninja would be Gaara and the sand siblings, as well various filler Ninja, including the starter deck heavy Shikamaru Nara [Lazy Bum] and Choji Akimichi [Chubby].

-Rock Lee Starter Deck: Rivalling the Gaara starter deck (much like the infamous "rivalry" between the two amongst fans and in the series), this deck would be a simpler version of the ever-popular Taijutsu deck. The various Rock Lee and Might Guy would be heavy hitters in both the deck and sideboard here, along with Neji Hyuga [Formidable Gift]. This deck would also premeire new styles of Jutsu, mostly physical jutsu without specific costs. New mission cards would also be neccessary here to fit the playing style.

That would be next season's. I think putting the extremely popular characters of Sabanaku no Gaara (Gaara of the Desert) and Rock Lee as featured characters could bring in more players to this game. The next season would be more focused on Kekkei Genkai themed decks (like Byakugan and Sharingan) rather than styles of play.

-Byakugan Starter Deck: Showing off Neji Hyuga on the cover, this deck would use Byakugan themed characters like Neji Hyuga and Hinata Hyuga. It would also make use of new Byakugan cards, which would basically be revisions of the various Sharingan cards, just with different effects and such.

-Sharingan Starter Deck: Showing off Kakashi Hatake on the cover, this deck would make use of Sharingan themed characters like Kakashi Hatake, Itachi Uchiha, with a small focus on Sasuke Uchiha (see below). Taking advantage of the Sharingan cards already released, this deck would also, at the same time, mix new Sharingan cards into it's arsenal.

To explain the reason the Sasuke focus in the Sharingan deck was minimal, it's that for the next season I wanted to have "Naruto 2" and "Sasuke 2" decks. But, the primary issue with Byakugan/Sharingan is the small number of those who can use either, which prevents the deck from becomming tier one.

-Naruto Starter Deck 2: Showing Naruto on the cover again, this deck would be an upgrade of the original starter deck, taking in things like Jiraiya's tutorship and Naruto's new moves as powerful themes, this deck would be a vast improvement over the past Naruto deck, focusing on Naruto as a major theme instead of just a card in the deck.

-Sasuke Starter Deck 2: Showing Sasuke (curse mark sealed) on the cover, this deck would also be an upgrade of the original. Along with regular Sasuke, this deck would include powerful Curse Mark Sasuke, and both Orochimaru and Kabuto. The deck's strategy would work on powerful jutsus and possibly sheer strength, the opposite of the Naruto deck which focuses on sheer strength and occasionally jutsus.

So there you have it, my ideas on Naruto Starter decks for the next three seasons of the Naruto CCG. Feel free to email me any comments, suggestions, or feedback in general at TimekeeperX@Yahoo.com. Peace.
