Hello Pojo Fans,

Mikanko Kagura made me think this archetype was going to be all about Ritual Monsters.

Archetype-specific Ritual Spell used to Ritual Summon the one Mikanko Ritual Monster currently in the game, which we will review on Friday. You can exceed the levels required for the summon, always good. Searchable with all the standard Ritual support as well as the Mikanko Ritual Monster, nifty!

After you Ritual Summon your Mikanko Ritual Monster, Kagura applies a potential board-wipe if you have enough Equip Spells. Destroy opponent’s cards up to the Equip Spells you have in the grave with different names and then some serious burn damage to boot. 1000LP per card destroyed can add up in a hurry, even more-so if the game is in its later stages. In the grave makes it easier than having to have the Equip Spells on the field, and while you’ll need different names it doesn’t restrict to Mikanko Equip Spells. There are four different Mikanko Equip Spells you may run, making that 4000LP damage if each is in the grave. This Ritual Spell works great with Isolde to fill your grave with those Equip Spells.

I can’t recall a Ritual Spell creating field advantage when played at the right time. The more Equip Spells you have in the grave when playing Mikanko Kagura, the more ground you cover, and you get a Ritual Summon of a good monster. Pretty good Ritual Spell.

The archetype does have a Ritual Monster, so it feels mandiatory to review the Ritual Spell for said archetype, so here’s Mikanko Kagura.

Mikanko Kagura is a Ritual Spell that lets you Ritual Summon any Mikanko Ritual by tributing monsters from your hand or field whose combined Levels equal or exceed that of the Ritual Monster, so simple enough and future-proofed for when the archetype gets more Rituals, in exchange for Pre-Preparation of Rites synergy. After you Ritual Summon, you can apply the effect to to destroy cards the opponent controls up to the number of Equip Spells with different names in your graveyard, then you can inflict 1000 damage to the opponent for each card destroyed. It’s good removal and it helps get more damage in since you are working with 0 ATK monsters, and even though they make the opponent take the damage, the opponent does need strong monsters to be efficient at ending the game. You can only activate 1 a turn, so you can’t spam Rituals. It’s a good Ritual Spell, though not the only way to summon your Ritual boss in the archetype. When we get more Rituals, the card will likely get better at least, but that’s for time to tell.

Believe it or not, Mikanko is technically a Ritual archetype, so they naturally have one Ritual Spell, Mikanko Kagura, which you can only activate once per turn. Oddly enough, it’s not super accessible in its own deck, with the only reliable way being the archetype’s in-house ROTA and boss, which we’ll get to later this week. Kagura works like any other Ritual Spell, tributing monsters from your hand or field whose levels equal or exceed the level of a Mikanko Ritual monster you’re trying to summon– currently, there’s only one Mikanko Ritual monster and it’s level 6, so you could play Cyber Angel Benten if you wanted to. Notably, it cannot Ritual Summon from the Graveyard, which I normally wouldn’t give cards grief about considering Meteonis Drytron is supposed to be an outlier, but considering this archetype’s boss can discard itself to search this, it’d be a neat bonus. Afterwards, Kagura has a bonus effect letting you destroy a number of your opponent’s cards for each Equip Spell with different names in your Graveyard. I think you’ll primarily use this to clear backrow, since Mikanko actually wants to keep your opponent’s stronger monsters alive, but you can get rid of problematic monsters if need be (and it doesn’t’ target!). Currently, summoning the archetype’s boss isn’t that big enough of a priority to warrant going all in on Ritual tools to search Kagura, but it’s a nice one-of just in case you want to summon the boss.
