Marincess Crystal Heart
– #CHIM-EN040

2 WATER monsters
Unaffected by your opponent’s monster effects while this card is in the Extra Monster Zone. During the Damage Step, if this card battles an opponent’s monster, that opponent’s monster is unaffected by card effects, except its own. When this card, or your “Marincess” Link Monster this card points to, is targeted for an attack: You can send 1 “Marincess” monster from your hand to the GY; for that battle, your monster cannot be destroyed by battle and you take no battle damage.

We saw using Battle Ocean and Crystal Heart gives your monster’s a Towers-like ability, so let’s see how good Crystal Heart is.

Crystal Heart is a Link-2 WATER Cyberse with 0 ATK and arrows pointing Bottom Left and Bottom Right. We never like 0 ATK, but WATER and Cyberse at least has a batch of support, and the arrows are perfect for most Link-2s. The summoning requirements are any 2 WATER monsters, so get as creative as you wish. It is unaffected by the opponent’s monster effects while in the Extra Monster Zone to make up for the fact every single monster that has any sort of ATK stat can run over this. During the Damage Step, if this card battles an opponent’s monster, that opponent’s monster is unaffected by card effects that aren’t its own effects, which I guess is good if your opponent is boosting their monster, but stings if you want to try and counter that monster in battle. Finally, when this card or a Marincess Link this points to is targeted for an attack, you can send a Marincess monster from your hand to the grave to make your monster unable to be destroyed in that battle and for you to take no damage from that battle. It’s great to use that on this when it’s attacked since it would otherwise get destroyed without issue, and the cost is fine when the archetype has good recovery. It can protect other Marincess monsters you might have in the MMZ since the Links can be good in the MMZ as well. Crystal Heart is decent when it isn’t used as a climbing piece, though it feels like it’ll mostly be used for Link Climbing.

Appropriately, again, midweek brings us to a card we briefly touched on yesterday, a Link Monster, in Marincess Crystal Heart.  This is a Water, Cyberese, Link 2 Monster, with 0 attack, who has arrows pointing to the respective bottom diagonals.  Link Summon here is performed by any two Water Monsters (I kinda feel one Cyberese would be appropriate given the theme but…)

Safe from opponent Monster Effects while in the Extra Monster Zone, which helps, even if there is 0 attack on this card body.  A Battle with this card and an opponent’s Monster protects that card from card effects that don’t belong to the card.  Which is interesting.  But, as you might expect and hope, the 0 attack here really means nothing given the last effect.

When this card, OR a Link Theme Monster this card points to is Targeted for an attack, sending a Theme Monster from your Hand to the Graveyard prevents your Monster from being destroyed in Battle and you from taking Damage.  NOTE, this is for THAT Battle you activate this effect.  Which is still amazing, but dependent on what’s in your Hand, and keeps it from being abused.

And we talked about how better our card from yesterday is as well when using this giving you extra benefits; this card is amazing in this theme too, even if it pull at your resources heavily.

Art:  4.5/5  This, while pretty enough, I’m not digging the eel, when we were treated to the beautiful lady on Monday.  Nice contrasts in the shades of blue though.
