Title: R/G/U archetype explored by Alex Kreydin Right now the environments of both Type II and IBC are still being explored. Many decks have arisen from the ashes of others. Some implore completely new mechanics which have never been used before. One of the new decks which I have never yet seen but have made myself is G/U/R control. One of the main pluses of the deck is that it can be used in both IBC(without the BOPs, Derms, and counterspells of course), Type II, and after Masques block rotates out. Here is my deck list: 4 Birds of paradise(since this is a 3 color deck nothing beats a first turn manafixer) 2 Blastoderm(against those rages, creature destruction and idols) 4 Mystic snake(2/2 for 4 mana and a counterspell in a control deck, what more can you ask for?) 4 repulse(sometimes you just don't have that handy counterspell or just need some card advantage) 4 counterspell(no need to explain the power of saying "How about NO" to his spiritmonger) 4 Gae's Skyfolk( drop them down late in the game once you have control and you can win the game) 3 Prophetic Bolt(Impulse and incinerate in one card, great for opponent's discard phase) 4 Fact or Fiction( great card advantage) 2 urza's rage(with this deck you can almost always cast them with kicker, or just answer to idol) 2 suffocating blast(in my opinion wizards made a mistake in this card by making it cost one more colorless, this card would have been a lot less powerful then undermine or absorb, but still since you are playing those 2 colors an d control it is good to put in) 2 Foil(an okay card, which I'll have to replace with something else when masques rotates out) 2 Wild research(this card is beyond great, given that this deck is not an actual "wild research deck" this card has saved me dozens of times, what beats having 12 mana and being able to search for one of your 2 rages or 3 prophetic bolts at end of turn, or just fetch that handy counterspell. 4 Yavamaya Coasts (can't live without) 4 Shivan reef(can't live without) 4 forest 4 mountains 6 islands Sideboard Undecided, suggestions welcome Now that you have seen the deck I'm sure some obvious questions arise, like how do you kill your opponent. This has sometimes been a problem for me myself especially when playing against U/W control, when you just run out of spells and he mills you to death. Contrary to what many people though when I played against them this deck did fairly well. Hear are the stats before sideboard: 70% against fires 80% against machine head and other B/R variants 40% against U/W control 60% against merfolk/opposition, orbossition, and other variants of that sort Generally the deck does very well. But many have told me that B/G/U control is just better because it runs spiritmonger and deed. Well that's it for the article if you have any suggestions for the deck and it's sideboard feel free to e-mail me at smartalex21@excite.com _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/
