Subject: Thrull Pact (Type One)

Old School Player, River City Toys, Round Rock, TX

Welcome to my humble little shop, we just began tourneys just three weeks ago, and this time we had a record of 12 competitors (we are just starting up).

We played single elimination, best two out of three.

My deck was a thrull deck with grave pact, I saced some of the thrulls to gain more thrulls, making them sacrifice a creature each time.
Deck- 19 swamp
4 cloudpost
4 blood pet
4 armor thrull
4 necrite
4 basal thrull
4 thrull champion
4 mindslaver
4 terror
4 isochron scepter
2 grave pact
1 oblivion stone
1 underworld dreams
1 Patriarch's Bidding

Sideboard- 4 Plains
4 Disenchant
4 Consume Spirit
2 Altar of shadows
1 Defense Grid

Round One- I faced one of my friends, he had a blue/ artifact deck that I pretty much knew everything about it. I got out a scepter with terror on it very early, and he could not Annul it, so he had a major problem. I beat him down pretty good with some little thrulls, but he held up with some steel walls I could not kill too easily. I finally drew a disenchant (from my sideboard) and imprinted it to a scepter and it was game, I had him locked down.

1-0

The next game he started out pretty dominant, he had sone nice flyers and he countered most of my thrulls. He had me down to ten when I drew a terror, I imprinted it to isochron scepter and I slowly widdled away at his creature source. Later that game I played a mindslaver, activated it and took his turn. In his hand he had an unsummon and a remove soul. I then unsummoned his last creature then countered it. Next turn the field was open, and I swung for a victory.

2-0

Round Two- I played a pretty affective green deck with squirell nest and a green Kahmal. He got out some creatures pretty fast then cast an overrun. Ouch, that hurt.

0-1

This next games I got a pretty good starting hand, I had two blood pets, a grave pact, and four swamps. He quickly got out some elves and a squirell nest. But once I got out grave pact I pretty much had the advantage, I drew a steady source of thrulls, sacfriced them for their abilities and after his army was wiped out I attacked with a thrull champion pumped up via four armor thrulls.

1-1

This game I started out with a decent hand, two cloudposts, a swamp, a blood pet, an isochron scepter, and a terror. I started out with a couple little thrulls then a got out two thrull champions and the game was looking to my favor. He naturalized my isochron scepter with terror and he began to destroy my creatures. I then drew two grave pacts back to back(!) and I pretty much did what I did last game.

Round Three- I had made it to the finals, and I faced the player with the largest access to cards, and he was also quite a good deck builder, he two played a black deck, centered around megrim and call to the grave.

The first game I had a decent hand, but his hand was even better, I disenchanted his call to the grave, but he got out some zombies with a warchief, then ran my over. I died.

The second game was pretty similar, I just could not draw a creature to save my life, but he drew plenty of zombies, needless to say, my shuffling was off this round. I guess I did good with a thrull deck to make runner up.
