Subject: Walls are creatures too. (type 2) Paul Oxford
     I've always thought walls were underrated. Where else can you get a 3/3 creature for 1 red? Or for that matter a 3/5 flying for 3c and 1 white? Walls. 
     But walls are really useless aren't they? They can't do much but block. And for the bigger ones it's kind of pointless to have a wall out there when you could be getting a creature out that can actually do damage to your opponent. Most people dismiss them and either work around them or do some sort of creature control on them later on after they have built up their army of creatures ready for attack or just sit back and giggle while they pound you with direct damage that normally would go to a creature that might be a pain in their side, all the while thinking what an idiot you are for using walls in your deck. That's about when you make them cry.
     I've found a lot of cards in 8th that I think are really cool but normally wouldn't use them because either the cost is too high or well... the cost is too high. I've always wanted to make a really good artifact deck too. But there weren't really enough of them in type 2 to make a really good deck (Until Mirrodin comes out anyway) so I combined things as filler for this fun deck that will definitely cause your opponent to wonder what the hell is going on.

1 X Defense Grid (I love this card. Slows down the blue.)
1 X Searing Wind (I figure if I'm using the urza land Why not?)

Ok- now I know I don't need all of those cards in there and I could just as easily thrown in more walls (The crude rampart for one) and direct damage- gotten rid of the urza land and many of the support cards- but like I said- I wanted to make a deck where I could use a few of the cards that would usually never see the light of day in a standard deck and see if they would work. They do.
     Planar Portal is just great when you have Urzatron out. Need a pyroclasm? No problem! But again- I wouldn't use it in any other deck except an all artifact deck and I have to wait for Mirrodin for that.
     Searing wind? Without the urza land- no way. Too much of a risk to be countered and costs too much- but if the cards come up right you could lay it out on turn 5 and that just isn't right.
     The best thing about this deck is laying down a wall the first few turns and then a Rukh Egg... your opponent will instantly turn their attention to the Rukh... and when you drop a Rolling Stones the next turn and attack for 12 pts of damage or so they will get flustered. Also Shock won't get rid of the walls- neither will most of the type 2 direct damage stuff. Wrath of God will- but Most opponents won't waste it on a wall unless it starts to hurt them- but by then it's pretty much too late, and if you have an egg out- the next turn it's a 4/4 flyer.
     Mirari's Wake/Decree of Justice combo is good. Hell it's great- I basically threw it in there as a back up. In case someone started to counter everything. If you get the urza land out- and three other land you can put out 3 4/4 flyers...Not a bad back up plan....
