Morphling - Master Pinger By Isaac Tong You already know how majorly broken Morphling is, right? But for those who are just getting into the game, here's a run down of one of blue's most powerful creatures. Name: Morphling Rarity: Rare Set: Urza's Saga Card Type: Creature - Shapeshifter Casting Cost: 3UU Power/Toughness: 3/3 Abilities U: Untap Morphling U: Morphling gains flying until end of turn U: Morphling cannot be the target of spells or abilities until end of turn 1: Morphling gets +1/-1 until end of turn 1: Morphling gets -1/+1 until end of turn Now you're thinking...how can this guy possibly get more broken? Well, all you need is a ton of blue mana (Which I'm sure a Tolarian Academy can provide easily with lots of artifacts out on your side) and this card. Wizards printed this before in Urza's Saga as Hermetic Studies, I think. Name: Psionic Gift Rarity: Common Set: Odyssey Card Type: Enchant Creature Casting Cost: 1U Abilities Enchanted creature has "Tap: This creature deals 1 damage to target creature or player." Combine this with Morphling's untap ability to deal a whopping amount of damage with a ton of blue mana. Horseshoe Crab could do the job with its untap ability but once you try to play Psionic Gift, he becomes public enemy numero uno. With Morphling, you can have a little insurance with his being untargetable ability. But the fun doesn't stop there...for the additional cost of R, you can play Quicksilver Dagger!! Sure, the Master Pinger can only hit players with this but he nets you massive card advantage!!! Still want more fun? Slap on this card after Morphling receives the Psionic Gift!!! Name: Sigil of Sleep Rarity: Common Set: Urza's Destiny Card Type: Enchant Creature Casting Cost: U Abilities Whenever enchanted creature deals damage to a player, return target creature that player controls to its owner's hand. Note that this says damage, NOT combat damage. With this baby on, Morphling becomes the new bouncer around and gives you board control against heavy creature decks. Just watch out for those creatures with come into play abilities like Deranged Hermit, Flametongue Kavu and last but not least...any of the Battlemages. That's it for now. Until next time, something crazy gets into my head. Isaac Tong ditong@ipoline.com
