First the decks: Mono Green - Speed Beatdown Land: 17 Forest Spells: 1x Squirrell Nest (Uncommon) 1x Overwhelming Instinct (Uncommon) 4x Sudden Strength 2x Primal Growth Creatures: 4x Giant Warthog 4x Basking Rootwalla 3x Diligent Farmhand 4x Harvester Druid 1x Brawn (Uncommon) 2x Spined Wurm 2x Spitting Gourna (for blocking fliers) 2x Krosan Archer (for blocking fliers) 1x Wood Elves 2x Llanowar Elves 2x Druid Lyrist 2x Pride of Lions (Uncommon) 3x Spring Tiger 1x Pygmy Kavu 2x Kavu Climber Under the right conditions, I can have a 5/5 Trampler in play on turn three. There are several card drawers in here too. I realize that Giant Growth is cheaper than Sudden Strength, but I don't have a problem with mana and I wanted the card drawing to keep the threats alive. The Pygmy Kavu was a great surprise on the guy with the Black/White deck. Red/Blue Burn Land: 5 Island 16 Mountain Spells: 4 Deep Analysis 1 Opt 2 Flame Burst 4 Firebolt 3 Shock 2 Temporary Insanity (Uncommon) 3 Solar Blast 2 Pinpoint Avalanche 3 Blazing Salvo 1 Strafe 1 Tremor 1 Zap 1 Crown of Flames Creatures: 4 Dwarven Scorcher 3 Mad Dog 2 Pouncing Kavu 1 Pygmy Pyrosaur 1 Embermage Goblin (uncommon) This is a neat deck, the blue's only purpose is to keep the hand full of burn. The surprise great card in here is the Pygmy Pyrosaur. A 1/1 that can pump +1/+0 for one red is a neat card. I would burn away the opposing creatures and then pump the little monster for all he was worth. The Games: The Blue/Red Deck won every game it was in. It beat a pair of mono-green decks and a black/white deck. Another player (coincidently also named Kevin) built a very similar blue/red deck except his had a few counter spells and some blue fliers. These two decks were very well matched with me winning two games and losing one. I can't say more about the games themselves because this was over a month ago. Mono-Green was a very common deck type that day. Because of the speed and fat commons that Green has, I can see why. My green deck was fair losing three and winning two. It actually has too much mana accel and not enough damage. Anyway, I beat another mono-green because I drew three Giant Warthogs and was able to put one into play one turn 5, 6, and seven. The turn 7 hog never even attacked. This deck lost to a mono-green elf deck that was painfully scary. I was on the receiving end of a turn 5 Overrun with 5 1/1 (initally) elves. This was another deck by the other Kevin. He had gone tribal and had a lot of Onslaught elves in that deck. Anyway, it was a fun day and most of us still have the peasant decks sitting in the wings. I think my Red/Blue is tough enough to go against non-Peasant decks... maybe. Thanks Kevin McCarthy klmhq@gt.rr.com -- You have the right believe what you want.
