Goblin Legionnaire (Common) RW 2/2 R, Sacrifice Goblin Legionnaire: Goblin Legionnaire deals 2 damage to target creature or player. W, Sacrifice Goblin Legionnaire: Prevent the next 2 damage that would be dealt to target creature or player. Goblin legionnaire is one heck of a powerful card for only two mana! I'll analyze each of it's abilities: First, it's power/toughness. Two for a 2/2 is great just by itself. I mean, look at Grizzly Bears and Fresh Volunteers. Their whole basis is that they are 2 for a 2/2! So, 2/2 for a 2/2 is good by itself, right? If you play first, you get out a 2/2 when they still only have 1 land. Good. Okay, now, it's first ability. Being able to deal 2 damage is AWSOME, and there are several reasons why: -First of all, if they kill it, sac it to do 2 damage! It's like a final attack. -Secondly, you can block a creature with 4 toughness or they block with a creature with 4 toughness, you can sac Goblin L. to kill! -Thirdly, and most obviously, you can kill their creatures and damage them! Kill a Gaea's Skyfolk, another Legionnaire, an elf... whatever. -And lastly, if they try to take control of it, you just sac it. It's practically un-take-control-of-able. Okay, now for the second ability. Honestly I rarely use this ability. The only time I use it is to save a creature. They didn't even NEED to add this ability though, considering how good the card is anyways, so don't take it for granted. Here's a few reasons why it's good: -The main reason you'll want to use it is to save a creature. Are they gonna rage your flametongue kavu? Do you NOT want them to kill it? It's a simple choice of which you want more- Goblin Legionnaire or Flametongue Kavu. See what I mean? -Oh yeah, you can prevent damage to you, which is just like gaining 2 life. Not too exciting. -Same 2 reasons as before. If they try to kill it or take control of it, just sac it to use the ability. I'd rather use the other ability unless I needed this one, however. Welp, that's all... what do you think? It's a great card to start the game with- trust me. Go try it out! -brett3@aol.com
