Here's a deck strategy, based on this card:

Volrath the Fallen, 4BB

Black Creature, Nemesis

1B, Discard a creature card from your hand: Volrath the Fallen gets +X/+X, where X is the discarded card's casting cost.

I call this deck Volrath the Glutton!

4  Volrath the Fallen (Nemesis)

4  Draco (Planeshift)

4  Fear (4th)

4  Dark Ritual (4th)

4  Haunted Crossroads (MM)

4  Demonic Tutor (Or Rhystic/Vampiric Tutor)

20 Swamp

 

Okay, it works this way, if you have a good hand:

1. Play swamp

2. Play swamp, then 2 Dark Ritual, then Volrath the Fallen

3. Play swamp, then Haunted Crossroads

4. Play swamp, then Fear, and then feed our Fallen friend with Draco.

5. Play Fear on Volrath, and tell your opponent you greet him with you 22/20 Volrath, which he probably can't block. AUCH!

If you have not won yet, use Haunted Crossroads to put our tasty meal Draco on top of your library.

6. Hey, just as I forsaw. Draco's in your hand, isn't he? Now just make sure Volrath eats enough dragon and blows the whole thing. Haunted Crossroads returns Draco turn after turn, and Volrath will probably become a big fatass!!!

That's about how to do the job. How to defeat this deck? Swords to Plowshares I think. Or many counterspells to counter all Volrath the Fallen and Haunted Crossroads.
