I'm sorry to disagree Tobias, but this combo does work.  Sorry for any 
misunderstandings, but if they play the spell and THEN you use the Unnatural 
Selection to change the target.  It will THEN be discarded with no affect...

To put an analogy to it, let's say your opponent plays Dark Banishing 
(Destroy target non-black creature & can't be regenerated) on your Rith, the 
Awakener (non-black creature).  If you play the instant Singe (1 damage to 
target creature. That creature becomes black until end of turn) on your 
Rith, does that Dark Banishing return to his hand? NO!!! IT IS DISCARDED 
WITH NO EFFECT. Nuf said.
