I played a lot of magic quite some time ago, but quit when I got tired of constantly having to shell out the constant money drain required. I'm back in again, having found a group of guys that are cool to play with, but I am not going to get suckered in to the money trap again. This place is exactly what I was looking for - a compilation of good, inexpensive decks. Here is my contribution - my Sucker Punch deck. It's core idea is to sneak by your defenders and hit the opponents hard with Unstable Mutations, Howls from Beyond, and Endless Screams. The Stormscape Familiar's ability dovetails perfectly into spells that cost XB. It's tweaked to play with the group of people I game with and we tend to play a lot of group and star-type games. In those situations, the games tend to build defensively for a few turns before people start getting their combos and power plays rolling. This deck is designed to A) bypass the defenses and B) kill people fast or at least hurt them bad before they get rolling. Creatures Metathran Soldier x4 Dauthi Marauder x4 Dauthi Cutthroat x1 (Uncommon) Stormscape Familiar x4 13 creatures Spells Unstable Mutation x4 Endless Scream x4 Howl From Beyond x4 Demonic Tutor x1 (Uncommon) Arcane Denial x1 Counterspell x2 (Uncommon) Force Spike x1 Terror x3 Dark Ritual x4 Probe x2 Syphon Soul x2 Peek x2 30 spells Lands Swamp x8 Island x8 Bad River x1 (Uncommon) 17 lands This may seem to be mana light, but between the general cheap casting costs of the creatures, the stormscape familiars, and the dark rituals this deck comes across as mana-heavy, which is perfect for the XB cost Howls and Screams. Substitutions/Cards that may have a place in this deck: Flying Men: U 1/1 Arabian Nights common flyer with no disadvantage, except the cost of the card. Cloud Pirates/Cloud Sprites: U 1/1 common flyer that can only block other flyers. One casting cost flyers make a nice possibility - turn 1 play an island and flyer, turn 2 play island and two unstable mutations.Wap - 7 points of damage on turn two, followed by 5 on turn 3 and 3 on turn 4. Darkness: B Legends - all creatures attack and block as normal, but none do any damage. As this deck is not designed to go mano-a-mana against other creatures, this is a nice card to slow down the enemy assault long enough to allow you to get in another sucker punch. Sol Ring (Uncommon). Cheap, fast mana to pump into the Howls and Screams. Creatures that have built in boomerang ability might have a place in this deck, as a method to rescue your creatures when the unstable mutations are about to kill them off. Mind Twist - okay - it's a rare, but it's well powered by the Stormscape familiar/Dark Ritual engine. ------------------- Allan Seyberth darious@darious.com Deadlands fan site - http://www.darious.com/ "And he who becomes master of a city accustomed to freedom and does not destroy it, may expect to be destroyed by it, for in rebellion it has always the watch-word of liberty and its ancient privileges as a rallying point, which neither time nor benefits will ever cause it to forget." - Niccolo Machiavelli
