Charles Gindy from Jacksonville, Florida Earns US$40,000 and a Star on the Magic: The Gathering Walk of Fame

Pro Tour Hollywood Tournament Champion Captures the Title in a True Hollywood Ending

WHAT: This past weekend, in Hollywood, CA, hundreds of eager Magic: The Gathering players battled it out for the coveted title of Pro Tour Hollywood Champion, but it was Charles Gindy from Jacksonville, Florida who came out on top to claim the title, trophy and US$40,000.  Jan Ruess from Hamburg, Germany, Shuhei Nakamura from Osaka, Japan and Choo Yong Han from Singapore rounded out the Top Four.

Gindy’s win in Hollywood marks his first Pro Tour victory.  Since 1996, Wizards of the Coast has given away more than US$31 million in Magic: The Gathering prize money and has hosted more than two million sanctioned events.

While Gindy has only participated on the Pro Tour circuit a handful of times, his previous Magic™ accomplishments have included winning Team Grand Prix Washington and runner-up at both Chicago and Pittsburgh.  Gindy credits Magic Online®, the extremely popular online version of Magic: The Gathering, with helping him prepare for this event.

Pro Tour Hollywood was a Standard format event with a number of public events played simultaneously – each awarding prizes of their own. This was the first time Shadowmoor™, the most recent set release, was playable in a large-scale sanctioned event. In addition to competitive events, players were able to meet legendary artists rk Post and Rob Alexander, both with art featured in the Shadowmoor set.

The Magic: The Gathering Pro Tour is the highest form of competitive play for the collectible trading card game. It is a series of high payout tournaments held throughout the world and run by the Wizards of the Coast "Organized Play" division, culminating in the Magic World Championships each year.  Next stop on the Pro Tour will be Berlin, Germany in late October and then the World Championships in Memphis, Tennessee in mid-December.
