v0rac10u5’s Deck Garage
Dead Red
April 29, 2008

Hi there Nathan,

I have just started getting into Magic and thought that a good deck to start playing with would be cheap, but still slightly competitive. So a friend pointed me to try out mono red burn, and it worked pretty well. The deck right now cost me about 35 – 40 bucks, which I guess is cheap, and runs no rares so far. The deck runs quite smoothly, but can be inconsistent sometimes…it can usually pull off the win a turn 5 or 6 or even earlier depending on what I draw. So, I was just wondering if you can look over what I have so far and tell me if there are any changes I should make…

Oh, and one last thing, can you tell me what the sideboard might look like?

Mono-red Sligh is always a great budget deck. Your best cards are almost always commons and your opponents are often dead before they know what has happened.

Sligh is built around quick cheap creatures and lots of burn. The burn I can see plain as day, but your creatures seem to be lacking. I would like to see this deck go 20/20/20 and balance out your deck as much as possible. Fortunately, Shadowmoor has given us a ton of great cards to work with.

Tattermunge Maniac was made for this deck. Blood Knight and Boggart Ramgang are also great fits, thought you could replace the latter with Ashenmoor Gouger if you wish. Needle Drop and Grapeshot probably don’t need to be here. Also, never play Tarfire if you aren’t running Tarmogoyf.

For your board, pick your worst matchups and pick cards that give ‘em hell. Pyroclasm helps with Faeries, Elves, and Kithkin. Cryoclasm for Reveillark. Threaten is for any deck that play Tarmogoyf or Chameleon Colossus. I also like Everlasting Torment for any random deck that shows up with Story Circle or Aven Riftwatcher.
