v0rac10u5’s Deck Garage
Next of Kin

March 25, 2008

Dear v0rac10u5,

Hi! My name's Ron. Nice to meet you! So, I'm building another standard deck and it is not really a budget deck though. My main goal is to play as many creatures with kinship, then, when my upkeep comes, one revealed card will have two - three effects. and if you're asking me what are the problems of this deck, well, it's just too slow for aggro decks (blaster decks, kithkin decks, merfolks etc). It also has a bit of shaky mana base.

Here comes my deck:

Lands(24x)

4x shimmering grotto

2x dreadship reef

1x adarkar wastes

2x calciform pools

3x vivid creek

3x vivid marsh

1x vivid meadow

5x island

2x swamp

1x plains

Creatures(25x)

3x sage of epityr

4x ink dissolver

3x stonybrook banneret

2x magus of the bazaar

2x prodigal sorcerer

3x waterspout weavers

1x arcanis, the omnipotent

3x nightshade schemers

1x changeling sentinel

3x wandering graybeard

Others(11x)

2x mystic speculation

3x whirlpool whelm

2x counsel of the soratami

3x nameless inversions

1x footbottom feast

I'll consider any type of additions and sudtrations.

hope you'll consider my deck.

thanks.

Here is your problem. When your kinship triggers “hit,” the effects don’t matter much. You have four kinship triggers in this deck, and only Nighshade Schemer’s actually helps kill your opponent. I would propose that you move this deck into the elves/treefolk tribes so that you can take advantage of the two best kinship creatures, Wolf-Skull Shaman and Leaf-Crowned Elder.

This deck is a slightly modified Doran build. Wolf-Skull Shaman triggers off of twenty-nine cards in the deck. Leaf-Crowned Elder triggers off of twenty-five cards. This deck really takes advantage of the shapeshifter cards, of which you have nine. One of those will hit all of your kinship triggers. Don’t be afraid to hold onto a harbinger until you have a few kinship cards in play. Then you can search up which ever card you want most and hit your kinship triggers. Remember to stack them appropriately too. The Leaf-Crowned Elder trigger should go on the stack first, then the Wolf-Skull Shaman trigger should go on the stack. In that order, your Wolf-Skull triggers resolve first and you get your tokens, then the Elder triggers resolve and you get to play the spell for free.
