v0rac10u5’s Deck Garage
Dead Men Walking
January 14, 2008

Hey v0rac10u5,

I was wondering if you could help me with my deck. Zombies, to me, are one of the coolest tribes and I've always enjoyed playing them. My zombie deck hasn't been up to par lately. I've adjusted my deck accordingly to whatever is popular in my playgroup, whether it be control decks or tribal decks. As of now, the lorwyn tribal and control decks are big in my playgroup. No matter how hard I try, I can never seem to outrace my friend's elf deck, mostly thanks to Wellwisher dragging out games and Timberwatch Elf making a larger than life creature. I'm not even going to start with Goblins. With control decks, it's 50/50 there so I'm not too worried there. Now that you know my situation, I'll give you my decklist and see what you can do with it.

Creatures: 24

1x Soulless One

2x Noxious Ghoul

3x Undead Warchief

4x Putrid Raptor

4x Withered Wretch

4x Rakdos Guildmage

4x Carnophage

2x Gempalm Polluter

Sorceries: 5

2x Patriarch's Bidding

3x Burning Wish

Instants: 8

4x Terminate

4x Incinerate

Lands: 23

8x Swamp

6x Mountain

4x Tainted Peak

3x Unholy Grotto

2x Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

General wish targets:

Perish

Tsabo's Decree

Stone Rain

Persecute

Anarchy

Patriarch's Bidding

--------------------

My deck is based on getting zombies in play, kill whatever with Terminate/Incinerate and win. If my zombies get killed off, I'll plop down Bidding and get them all back. It's even better with Noxious Ghoul bringing back a horde of zombies only to kill the board of non-zombies. Burning Wish lets me run a toolbox of sorceries that help me with whatever situation I'm in. Perish for elves/green beatdown, Tsabo's Decree for other tribal decks, Stone Rain for lands that I just don't like(Maze of Ith), Persecute for monocolored decks, Anarchy to deal with white weenie and enchantments(Worship, Ghostly Prison, or any Circle of Protection) and lastly, Patriarch's Bidding for situations in which I don't draw into it.

I only play with casual single/multiplayer games with my playgroup and will mostly stay that way. Money isn't really an issue, but I refuse to pay $20 dollars and up for any card. As I said before, elves and artifacts/enchantments are my biggest problems at the moment. I don't mind any major changes that you would be willing to make with my deck, the only thing I ask is keep it a zombie deck that focuses on it's tribal interactions. Other than that have at it!

Thanks for hearing me out and hopefully responding back.

This is going to be a pretty easy fix for me. Your deck is well-built and very balanced. I think you are missing a few cards that would really help your deck, but, other than that, this deck is probably as well built as it is going to get.

  • Add Sarcomancy. It is a great 2/2 for one and you will never care about its drawback.
  • Add Lord of the Undead. It was reprinted as a zombie, so it gets the Warchief’s pump and comes back with the Bidding.
  • Add Call to the Grave. The card was made for this deck. Your opponent will have to sacrifice a creature every turn for the rest of the game and you lose nothing.
  • Work on the mana base. You have a lot of space to increase the decks consistency by adding fetchlands and dual lands (if you can find/afford them).

Dead Men Walking.dec v1.1

21/15/24

4 Carnophage

4 Withered Wretch

4 Lord of the Undead

4 Undead Warchief

3 Noxious Ghoul

2 Gempalm Polluter

4 Sarcomancy

4 Terminate

3 Burning Wish

2 Call to the Grave

2 Patriarch’s Bidding

4 Sulfurous Springs

4 Bloodstained Mire

4 Blood Crypt

4 Badlands

4 Tainted Peak

3 Unholy Grotto

1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

A good list of wish targets to have on hand:

Mind Twist

Chainer’s Edict

Pyroclasm

Profane Command

Yawgmoth’s Will

Perish

Anarchy

Haunting Echoes

Patriarch’s Bidding

Void

Badlands and Blood Crypt are both swamps and mountains, so they will trigger the Peaks and can found with the Mires. If the goblin and elf decks are still keeping you down, replace Terminate with Engineered Plague.

FYI: Tsabo’s Decree is an instant and can’t be found with Burning Wish.
