BMoor's Magic The Gathering Deck Garage
Hans from Peru
November 14, 2006

Hi, my name is Hans, from Peru. Until recently I was playing a G/W controlish deck based around glare of subdual and token producing, but since another guy plays a similar one and also with the removal of champion blocks I lost very utility cards, I decided to build another control deck, blue white this time. However, the end result doesn't make much sense >_<. I win from time to time, but its far from consistent. Id like it if you could tell me if at least the concept is ok.

Mana Sink Depths:
Lands: 20

8x Island
6x Plains
4x Azorius Chancery
2x Dark Depths

Creatures:

4x Wall of Shards
3x Soulsworn Jury
2x Stuffy Doll
2x Foriysian Interceptor

Spells: 29
4x Axorius Signet
1x Reminisce
4x Wrath of God
3x Telling Time
2x Leyline of Singularity
2x Pariah´s Shield
2x Tidings
3x Counsel of the Soratami
2x Convolute
2x Rewind
4x Cancel

Sidedeck:

2x Akroma, Angel of Wrath
1x Reminisce
4x Sleight of Hand
1x Soulsworn Jury
2x Foriysian Interptor
3x Return to Dust
2x Grand Arbiter Augustin IV

Believe it or not I do get to trigger the ability from Dark Depths, and it does resolve and it does kill people in 1 - 2 swings. The problem is that when I do it Im usually at 2 - 4 life left >_> or I die to a char/sliver horde/pumped up frog when Im 1 - 2 counters away from getting it done. Im thinking of adding Pride of the Clouds or Sky Hussar, Im really unsure about my choice of creatures, I think its the weakest point of the deck, besides the unlikely "win" condition.

Thanks in advance if you read this far.
You're welcome in advance if you're reading this, Hans.  Here's hoping my work here is worth your gratitude.

This deck does a lot of different things, Hans, of varying plausibility.  l love the Stuffy Doll/Pariah's Shield combo.  The counterspell backup looks good.  Your defense creatures are a good call, as is the card drawing.  There are only two noteworthy problems here, Hans.  One, your card choices are sub-par when there are better cards out there.  And two, well, I'll come back to that.

l'll start on the counterspells.  You've got 4 Cancel, 2 Convolute, and 2 Rewind.Cancel works perfectly, but Convolute and Rewind are too expensive.  Replace them wlth 4 Rune Snag-- the better, more powerful card.

Next, your card drawing.  Tidings is fine, and so is Tellng Time, but the Counsel isn't.  Two cards at sorcery speed is unexcitng.  Try Thieving Magpie or Thought Courier for repeated draw whenever you want!  Also, take out Reminisce-- it doesn't do enough.

Now for your psuedo-Walls.  Soulsworn Jury needs to be more Stuffy Dolls or lnterceptors.  A few Drift of Phantasms may help too, and you can't beat Kami of Old Stome for sheer toughness.  Order of the Stars holds off beatdown expertly as well.  Not a lot to do there-- just defenders.
Next comes Leyline of Slngularity.  Why?  What does it do for you?  Not enough, that's what.  Drop it.  Use those spaces for a few Azorius Guildmage.  She's got so much utilty you'll wonder how you got a long without her.

And finally, time to stop ignoring the elephant ln the room here.  There's a huge problem l've glossed over so far, and l'm fixing that problem now.  Dark Depths.  Dark Depths only belongs in decks with huge mana combos.  Your deck has no such combo.  You are only hurting yourself with Dark Depths.  Fortunately, the answer is there in front of us-- teh 2 Akroma come up from the sidedeck to replace the Depths.  This will make your games much smoother, l guarantee.
And that concludes my fix of an entire playgroup's decks in a single weekend.  l really enjoyed this whole process.  Thanks for E-mailing me.

Don't ever make me do this again.

Good luck, BMoor.
