BMoor's Magic The Gathering Deck Garage
Paul from Peru
November 14, 2006

Fixing the decks of everyone in a playgroup is actually quite interesting.  Each E-mail mentions the other decks and how they play off each other, and reading each E-mail gives me a multi-faceted image of how it all comes together.  Here's number four:
Hi my name is Paul, Im writing from Peru. My friends and I play a semi-casual environment with only standard legal cards because I say so. I win consistently with my deck, around 75% of the time, but I seem to run out of options fast. Also, a few well timed counters and I die >_<. It started as a boros deck then became a R/W Concerted effort deck which died due to people here maindecking Scour to destroy my win condition :( then became a soldier-token deck based around Darien, King of Kjeldor but since at the time people played too many stupid elephants I needed to BURN MORE so I splashed green to combo tamanoa with searing meditation, and replaced my old wrath of god lately with a more manageable savage twister. Anyways, here is my list:

Paul´s Irrational Deck.

Lands: 22

Sacred Foundry x3
Battlefield Forge x2
Brushland x2
Temple Garden x3
Boros Garrison x2
Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion x2
Skarr, the Rage Pits x2
Plains x4
Mountain x2

Creatures: 14
Darien, King of Kjeldor x3
Soul Warden x4
Veteran Armorer x2
Boros Swiftblade x2
Tamanoa x3

Spells: 25
Sacred Mesa x2
Savage Twister x2
Char x4
Lightning Helix x4
Searing Meditation x3
Paradise Plume x2
Gift of States x3
Sword of the Paruns x2
Glorious Anthems x3

Sidedeck:

4x Disenchant
1x Glorius Anthem
2x Loxodon Warhammer
4x Browbeat
2x Field Marshal
2x Celestial Crusader

Its not as crazy as you (or the guys on the white robes) might think at first glance, it actually does work. Still, Im sure there is room for improvement. Thanks for your time.
Well, I have to say "Irrational" is a good word to describe this.  I can sort of see how it would all come together successfully, but it's a bit difficult since each card interacts with other cards in different ways.  I'll do what I can, but you may have to take my advice with a grain of salt* on this one.

Now, there is definitely a lot of burn here to trigger Tamanoa a lot, so you should be gaining life like a madman.  You may want to think about a copy or two of Storm Herd, to turn that life into Pegasi.  See also the synergy with Sacred Mesa.  Glorious Anthem and Sword of the Paruns are nice too, to help your creatures survive the Savage Twister.  Since you can put out a lot of creature tokens, Hour of Reckoning might be a backbreaking move for you that could replace Wrath of God even better than the Twister.  And speaking of a token deck, Selesnya Guildmage is always welcome in just about any deck with green and white.

Now, for cards you can pull out, I'm not sure you're really optimizing your card slots with Boros Swiftblade.  A good creature, yes, but what does he bring to the table?  The same goes for Skarrg, the Rage Pits.  Having a land that taps for colored mana is more important than trample.  If you want trample, then the perfect card for you is Gruul War Plow.  Borborygmos would be a powerhouse in this deck as well, if your mana curve can handle him.  Your mana may be better spent on more Pegasi, though.

Speaking of mana, is Paradise Plume really the best option here?  It taps for a mana of a color of your choice, and helps you gain a little life.  But you're already a life gaining machine, and the Plume is five mana.  You're better off here with Prismatic Lens-- it comes down on turn two and can provide any color of mana or colorless.

Finally, with a deck pulled in so many directions, you may find yourself needing a lucky topdeck.  When that happens, you need to just draw more cards.  In red, white, and green, I'm not sure how, but Gift of Estates is on the right track.  Maybe a bit more land searching would help if your games feel too random.  Without playing the deck myself, it's hard to be sure, but it's something to think about anyway.  Good luck!

*I don't know if this is a common saying in other parts of the world or even if many people in this part of the world will have heard it before, but "with a grain of salt" is an expression meaning "with the awareness that there could be a few mistakes".
