Nissa, Worldwaker

Nissa looks very determined on this card, and also younger than I thought she was. I'm going to feel bad if ever I cast Nissa's Defeat, from Hour of Devastation. Actually, there are a lot of things in that set that are rather depressing - I'm actually getting a little apocalypse-fatigued with some of these new expansions. For a lot of fantasy writers, the extremes seem to involve either the entire world being destroyed, or personal stakes where people you've come to love die (hi, Game of Thrones). Surely there's more of a middle ground somewhere.

There are a couple of things to note about Nissa, Worldwaker. The first is that the ability which turns a forest into a creature is permanent - don't forget which one you targeted, and be careful of Hallowed Burial! The second is that her other +1 takes you from five mana to like ten or more, so it goes well with Eldrazi (despite not really being in flavor with respect to the Battle for Zendikar block); along with her ultimate, I think this might make her technically the most purely efficient green ramp card ever printed, even for the high-ish casting cost.

Nissa, Worldwaker is...interesting. She was the first Nissa planeswalker after they decided to make Nissa their new green exemplar. Her abilities are interesting, though there's an odd lack of synergy between them at times, and she seems to play pretty awkwardly at times.

She can go one of two ways for her +1: untap a bunch of lands, or animate a land to smash face. Untapping lands does help with accelerating out your board faster, and it even can be used to stick a four drop after Nissa. Of course, if you don't need that, you can just send Elementals into the red zone.

Her ultimate asks for you to have a lot of basic Forests. A lot. That's not always ideal for a deck, since you want to pack in a lot of lands with utility beyond being basic. That said, it's a way to amass an army to end the game, as long as a board sweeper doesn't ruin your day.
