Goblin Balloon Brigade

1/1 creatures just aren't fit for combat anymore. Goblin Balloon Brigade helps avert their main weakness by having evasion, but they have to pay mana each turn to fly over the blockers. Most red decks can find a better use for one red mana.

Constructed- 1.1
Casual- 1.1
Limited- 2.25
Multiplayer- 1.1

Goblin Balloon Brigade

Back in 1994, there were three tribal decks: goblins, merfolk, and zombies. Goblins had slightly more options, both in number and in abilities, largely thanks to Goblin Balloon Brigade. Nowadays, it's not the most powerful option available, but it still merits consideration, if only because the vast majority of goblins can't fly, and things like Wall of Frost can stop them for hours on end. Also, shouting "Inflate the toad!" at the beginning of your attack step is just hilarious.

Magic The Gathering Card of The Day: Goblin Balloon Brigade

Welcome back readers today's card of the day is Goblin Balloon Brigade, a 1/1 goblin that has the ability to fly for a single red mana. Back in the day's of early Sligh decks this card must have been a beater but today power creep has rendered our little friend here almost obsolete. In standard there are more powerful goblins and red creatures available to decks that this card wont make the grade and it ties up mana. In extended and eternal this creature has no chance and has been thoroughly outclasses multiple times. In casual and multiplayer in a goblin deck early evasive creatures may be good but once again it ties up your mana. When you need to take down multiple opponents this card wont be the MVP of the game. In limited its an early evasive creature and creatures are important. Overall a fun card but nothing worth running the majority of the time.

Today's card of the day is Goblin Balloon Brigade which at a single mana isn't bad for a 1/1 with the option of Flying until end of turn when a Red is paid.  The Goblin type is well supported and Warrior has some support, so overall this is a playable and often evasive creature with no real drawback.  For Goblin decks in particular this is one of the few options for getting around a defense and with some power enhancements is a viable threat.

For Limited this is a very nice card to open in Sealed as having a one mana creatures help open up an early lead and Flying is almost always beneficial.  For Booster this can be picked up a little earlier than might be normal for most one mana creatures thanks to Flying option, especially if you happen to have lucked into Goblin Chieftain as one of your rares.
