Tendrils of Corruption

A decent black kill spell that lets you gain life and take out a creature. A bit pricey at four mana, but it wants you to wait until late game to use it anyway. It also wants you to run Swamps, not nonbasic lands, so it's at its best in monoblack decks. Thus, it's strength in any format is tied to the strength of the other black cards in that format.

Casual- 3.5
Multiplayer- 3.5
Limited- 3.75

Tendrils of Corruption

This card was first released in Time Spiral, during a different multicolor-themed Standard season, and back then it also seemed to be a contradiction by demanding heavy commitment to one color, and to black no less, which limits options against enchantments and artifacts. Guess what? People played it anyway. Its instant speed allows spectacular ambush plays, and casting even one against a creature-based deck can be devastating.

Tendrils of Corruption

Constructed: This time around it is missing it's land. But still has some potential for some good plays in a mono black deck. If one can make a come back.

Casual & Multiplayer: You sometimes pay a lot of life in some back decks. It is good to be able to get it back. And kill a big creature too.

Limited: One of the best removal spells at instant speed. Take care of alot of creatures and gains you more life. Also a top hate draft. Would not like it used against me either.

Overall a good reprint. Even though it is missing it Legendary Land.

Michael "Maikeruu" Pierno Today's card of the day is Tendrils of Corruption last seen in Time Spiral and a fairly popular card both then and now. Naturally at home in primarily or exclusively Black decks it can very effectively change the state of the game in a single move.

In Constructed, Casual, and Multiplayer a mostly or all Swamp-based deck can utilize this card to both remove a threat and gain back a decent bit of life. A bit expensive for removal at four mana, but it is quite easy to gain five or six life in addition to a destruction effect.

For Limited the value of this card is reduced a bit in Sealed as playing a single color is extremely difficult. For Booster though having removal and life gain with the ability to draft entirely in Black makes this a very solid card and a high pick if your color is already decided. I consider this and Doom Blade to be two of the best draft picks for Black and it should be taken before almost any other card.

Constructed: 3.5
Casual: 3.5
Limited: 3.0 (Sealed) 4.0 (Booster)
Multiplayer: 3.5
