Fabricate

It's easy to make mistakes when evaluating cards like this. One I've seen in the past is comparing it to Tinker, without stopping to consider that Tinker is in From the Vault: Exiled and there's a reason for that. Fabricate is a powerful card for casual play or any less powerful format where you rely on a specific artifact - I recommend Darksteel Reactor, but you have many, many fun options with this.

Michael "Maikeruu" Pierno Today's card of the day is Fabricate which was last seen in the Mirrodin set. It is a Blue card in the spirit of Tinker with the changes of not sacrificing an artifact or putting a new one directly into play. While not having the sheer power of turning an Ornithopter into any artifact you want, it still offers a useful Tutor effect. Plus when combined with Master Transmuter you have a two card Tinker that is legal in Standard and merely returns the sacrificial artifact to your hand.

In Constructed and Multiplayer this is a card that can be used to search out any important artifact needed at the time and have it be appropriate to the situation you are in at the time. Blue often uses an artifact theme, as seen with the Esper shard and the Tezzerator deck concept, and this can be a welcome addition to that.

For Casual I am giving this a bit more attention as the format really lends itself towards very specific combos and singularly powerful cards. Using something to search them out makes a casual deck more stable and even more importantly helps keep the focus of the deck visible to the opponents.

With Limited the reduced number of available artifacts that are useful and worth searching out is drastically reduced. Unless you happen to draft a really powerful artifact you absolutely must have another chance at drawing I'd pass it in Booster and keep it in Sealed's sidedeck.

Also, keep in mind even if you do have a great artifact you actually should have at least one other decent choice in case you draw the artifact before drawing Fabricate. Without a second choice this is an utterly dead draw that would only grant you the ability to shuffle your deck for three mana which is not a very impressive topdeck late in the game.
