Burst Lightning

"Lightning" is one of Magic's weighted words, like "Lotus" or "Mox," that lead people to expect more than normal. Burst Lightning does not disappoint. Many people have found themselves unhappy to draw Shock after the fifth turn, when their opponent has stabilized on four life or has a Ravenous Baloth. No more.

Today's card of the day is Burst Lightning which is a strictly better upgrade to Shock or Tarfire.  The difference option of additional damage for extra mana makes it a better topdeck later in the game and able to take out creatures with three or four toughness.  Shock was quite popular while Lightning Bolt was out of standard rotation, so an upgrade here makes sense.  This is not a replacement for the Bolt, but support for a heavy burn design.

For Constructed, Casual, and Multiplayer this should replace any copies of Shock or Tarfire unless playing in some kind of block format that prohibits it.

In Limited this is one of the top draft picks in Booster as cheap removal that can later be used against larger targets.  With Sealed this should go in any deck including Red mana without exception and is the kind of card that makes playing or splashing the color a serious consideration.
