Thornweald Archer

This kills a lot of creatures Green can't normally. For a mere two mana, you get a creature that can attack for two and threaten to kill anything that gets in its way, no matter how big, or a perfect blocker that holds off even the biggest of creatures, even if they fly.

Thursday - Thornweald Archer

The one thing going for this guy is that he kills Tarmogoyf. In a R/G deck, this is one of the few good ways to off that bugger, so he's worth side decking at the very least just for that. I wouldn't main deck him unless I knew the metagame was going to be full of G/x aggro decks filled to the brim with Tarmogoyfs. Outside of that, he's really just limited filler.

In casual, I would just play Elvish Archers instead.

In limited, a decent card, as he can trade with just about any creature they throw at you, including their big flying bomb.

Constructed - 3.5 (because he kills Tarmogoyfs)
Casual - 2
Limited - 2.5

Now this a card that when I first saw was like WOW this is a limited bomb but never thought it would see constructed play. The more you look at this card the better it gets. 2/1 for 2 is ok in itself, then add it has reach so it can chump fliers, then add deathtouch, now you have a chump blocker for almost any creature and it will 1 for 1 with it. This is pseudo removal for green.

Thornweald Archer

This card actually reminds me of Elvish Archers, another 2/1 creature for 1G but with only one ability, and which was also very good on paper but didn't see as much play as it might have. In Standard, people have generally preferred creatures like Saffi Eriksdotter and Watchwolf, with either more relevant abilities or much higher power. That may change once Lorwyn is released, as Elves are one of the major tribes and may not be able to overlook it any more. Unlike the old Elvish Archers, Thornweald Archer is almost guaranteed to kill something in combat, often something much larger and/or more expensive than itself.

Meb9000 Thornweald Archer

This little elf from Future Sight was a nice foreshadow for the black aligned elves of Lorwyn. Thornweald Archer provides a very efficient blocker for only 2 mana. The Reach is especially nice, allowing this dude to block many different creatures. If you wish to take a more aggressive approach, this Elf will basically say "Unblockable" on it since no one would want to lose a creature to little 2/1 elf. Many different approaches are viable with this card, and I daresay it could be a strong contender for any upcoming Elf decks.

Thornweald Archer

This guy is pretty efficient. For 1G, you get a 2/1 with Reach and Deathtouch. The Deathtouch makes this guy pretty good as no Tarmagoyf and no one wants to trade a creature with a greater mana cost than this with this. It still dies to Mogg Fanatic though but that little Goblin seems to lessen in popularity lately.

In casual, this guy isn't overly impressive. It's still a great blocker though in both duels and multiplayer.

In limited, it trades with fliers and swings for early damage. It's pretty good.
